Quit candy-coating it and say what you mean!

I do have the giant Sam’s Club bottle of Aleve. It helps after the fact, but the show-stopping twinges are becoming more frequent. Its osteoarthritis, passed-down from my mother. Hands, neck, right shoulder.
The Damper fixes everything.

One of the first things I got. I could see that at some point the tailgate cables were going to snap. Days I'm carrying bags or groceries or stuff from Lowe's and can't lower it easily. Also I unplugged the electric lock on the tailgate, got tired of that shit.

I'm eyeballing the tailgate ladder. Got Euflexxa injections in my knees again in September but this time they didn't do any good. Gonna see the doctor after the holidays and see if it's time for new knees. About five years ago he told me I had ten years left in the OE units.

Damn...I'm looking at bone spur surgery in both shoulders...but I'm toughing it out...for now...but for how long?!?!? I'm staring at 50 next year....how long do I have before I succumb!!?!?
I’ve made it to 59 on Aleve and cortisone shots. I’m not afraid of the surgery, but don’t want the recovery down time.

OK Scott, no teasing, I am old so need this, where is the link? Damn tailgate is just 6" to high for me to step up into.
Their website is kinda squirrelly, hopefully the link will work.

https://www.bestop.com/products/trekstep-rear-mount-step-ford-2019-2021-ranger/

I actually bought mine off of Amazon. ($299 shipped) They make them for other vehicles, too, so make sure you're getting one for a 2019+ Ranger.

It comes in darn handy. I have a couple different back injuries and my knees aren't the best anymore. And I'm only 52, lol.

OK, and thanks. I was looking at them on Amazon but didn't see one for the ranger. Yep, getting up into the bed gets harder every year, and I am only 73, but I do work out 3 times a week, run, hike, scuba, and love the outdoors. But I am here to tell you getting old sucks! but is better than the alternative.

I love my tailgate ladder I really have a lot of joint issues and it makes life so much easier getting into the bed.

I really don't understand the anti-damperism. It is so dang useful for someone who uses the tailgate a lot. I keep all my running stuff back there cause it can get stanky sometimes, so the gate is opened and closed a lot. I haul trash at least once a week as well. And I gotta say when the temps drop, the damper is even slower, giving even longer time to make sure you're ready to throw that crap in there.
I'm not anti damper, but I don't consider it useful at all. The only thing it does is waste my time, when I could other wise be putting stuff in the box instead of standing there waiting for the tailgate to open fully.

If it had a hands free option that would make it better so it doesn't slam on remote opening, but if I have to manually pull the handle I'd just as soon bring the gate down as far as I need and close it again without waiting for it.

Another one lost to the great damper war. Only a few of us remain.
Naw, we just dont waste time arguing with sheep.

40k miles of "slamming" tailgate without a break in the space time continuem.

I will spend money for a spoiler on a Prius before a damper.

I understand about the shoulder pain. I found out real quick when I tried to outdo my Grandson in pushups. I made it down…never came back up. Some of the worst pain I’ve ever had.

all this talk about tailgate dampers and cables... I remember my first couple trucks and "tail gate accessories" used to mean couple of pillows, good comfy blanket and cooler. then you found a good spot to park. drop the tail gate and watch the stars with the ladies. I was a southern gentleman, opened the door of the truck and the tailgate lol. learned a lot of life lessons on the tail gate and hood of beat up old trucks. ( cant do that anymore, too damn fat and hoods too thin, id cave it in) now that im no longer younger than my trucks ive been considering the dang damper. :frown: im in the bed a lot with the gate closed, opening it without the drop and thud is tough unless your already out of the bed.
