I realize what it does... but is it necessary for hardcore off-roading ?Tells you the angle of the vehicle. Front to back & left to right. Good for serious off roading.
Nope, like remote start, power locks etc. ?I realize what it does... but is it necessary for hardcore off-roading ?
It's an FX4 thing....Pretty sure FX4 only
Absolutely! Can it be turned on via Forscan?
Only thing really "necessary" for hardcore off-roading is a self-propelled vehicle that moves you from place to place. Anything more than that is just "nice to have". This screen is a fun little thing and as someone who likes data and numbers it's cool to get all that info in the moment, but people have been off-roading for many many years without it and done just fine.I realize what it does... but is it necessary for hardcore off-roading ?
My two pennies.....It's something more of reference or to have fun with. I question it's accuracy and you probably should be using the gyroscope in your head to judge terrain while off road. Some could see it as a challenge though.I wonder if this is a widget or something useful. Its neat, but i dunno...
Maybe FX2 alsoDo the 4x4 Rangers have this fancy little gadget or is this part of the Fx4 package?

Well I wouldn't say that the off road modes "are a gimmick". I've used them all and they do what they're intended to do. Now maybe they're not going to be used by everyone so they could be a useless feature but to call them a gimmick is misleading. In my experience the only real value add of FX4 is the locking rear diff and the skid plates. The off-road modes are a gimmick and the FX4 suspension is not great. Would try to save the money and get a proper suspension kit if I were to do it again. The AT tires that come stock are also mediocre.
Fair enough. They do change power delivery and driving characteristics for sure. I just figure for the money I could do without them.Well I wouldn't say that the off road modes "are a gimmick". I had all these same features on my Tacoma and never used them because, well, I hated that truck and never cared to off road all that much wth it. With my Ranger I use them often and they work great. Especially the sand mode as we go through some deep sandy washes to get to our shooting spot in the desert. Would I get stuck without it,doubtful but you can here and feel the difference when in that mode.
