The Tacoma looks like a childs plastic toy.
We test drove an extended cab Colorado... had to slam the rear door 3 times to get it to close.
Nissan Frontier, wow, just to ugly.
Jeep Gladiator, even uglier than the Frontier and Tacoma.

What's left?

I was driving a 2018 GMC Canyon All Terrain that I liked a lot. My truck was hit by a driver making an illegal left turn, square on the left front wheel. There was a lot of damage, including suspension, but not totaled. The shop did a good job fixing it, but I knew its days were numbered at that point. It was too new to get out of until all the pandemic incentives came along.

I would have done another Canyon/Colorado, but they really didn't seem all that interested in selling them. At that point I wasn't really considering Ranger, thinking they were still too new for much discount. I started looking at full size trucks and came very close on a Silverado LT Trail Boss. The enormous size and things it doesn't come with on a $50K+ sticker made me think real hard about it and keep looking. The $6K incentive and V8 were tempting though.

I like the Gladiator a lot, but the price of admission is way too high. I didn't even consider Toyota or Nissan.

I was F-150 shopping and saw a dealer with quite a few '19 Rangers still on the lot. I was able to strike a good deal and I'm really happy with it. It's superior to the Canyon I had in many ways. The size fits my needs much better than full size. A friend just bought a Ram 1500 Big Horn and I swear you need a barge pilot license to drive it!

I got a brand new 4x4 crew cab for $26,000. That’s why. Oh, and it’s a Ford! ?

I rented a 2019 Colorado for a week and noticed a few things I didn't especially like :
- wind noise at 70 mph that seemed to come from the wind shield wipers
- front hood area seemed high up and hard to see what's in front - design seemed to be more Silverado like in the front.
- Ranger has slightly higher ground clearance but Colorado but the cab seemed a bit higher up.
- was a base model so the audio, seats and engine (4 cyl.) were all unimpressive.

As a Fleet Manager at a Ford Store, I drive an F150 as a demo. I enjoy driving it and have no issues with owning one, but I wanted something different. I wanted it to fit in my garage. I wanted something smaller but enough to tow a bit. I drove the Ranger and hated it the first time. It was a supercab XLT Fx4. Felt squished. Well, I saw the crewcab lariat and decided to give it another shot. I enjoyed driving it. My only complaint is the location of power window switches. They're too far back on the armrest. Other than that, it works perfectly for me. I still get a new demo every six months and drive the F150 happily. The ranger will get about 4k miles per year max on it and we'll continue to make it our own with subtle changes and adjustments.

A couple of reasons...
1. After several trips to Europe, I fell in love with the few 4 door Rangers I saw over there through the decades.
2. I've been stalking Ford's Australian website for decades too! I have friends over there that used to bring me back car and truck magazines back in the day.
3. I'm a HUGE Ford fanatic. I have a Mustang GT, and my wife has a Ford Escape. My "police car" is a F150. At one point I had an unmarked 2008 Ford Ranger as a work vehicle (complete with undercover lights and sirens). My first new vehicle was a 2003 Ford Ranger.

The '98 Ranger SCab FX4 Off Road I bought used in 2009 had been rented by my city's PD for 8 months prior to my purchasing it.
It had been used to make drug buys. The dealership didn't share this with me. I was informed about this piece of its history from my brother who was an officer on the PD at the time. He nicked named the truck the narc mobile. From then on, that was how my whole family referred to it.

I read about the quarter mile time of the stock turbo Ranger , I was sold . Plus smaller than F 150 and I waited since 2011 to replace my first great Ranger a 1990 . When I saw them at the dealer wow .

You could say I'm loyal to the Ranger, I've had one since 1998, the first being a 1989 XLT 2WD, 5 speed manual, regular cab, with a 7 ft. bed. The next came in 2006, a 2000 XLT 2WD 4DR supercab.

When the 2000 began leaking oil last September I started considering a used 2019, but soon realized the deals on new XLTs were too good to pass up (my deal was $8,800 off) in mid December. These new Rangers are plenty large enough and very capable. I always thought I would go with an extended cab for the bigger bed, but that meant a very tight back seat for adults. Now I know why crew cabs seem to make up about 90% of trucks on the road.

I had waited years for a Dakota to return and FCA is a hot mess soooo...
- Fits in garage
- Off-road capable
- Fuel efficient
- Not a GM product
- Not ugly
- Tow-ready
- Body on frame

It was Ranger or Tacoma and the tranny in the Toyota felt off to me.
