I rented a 2019 Colorado for a week and noticed a few things I didn't especially like :I was driving a 2018 GMC Canyon All Terrain that I liked a lot. My truck was hit by a driver making an illegal left turn, square on the left front wheel. There was a lot of damage, including suspension, but not totaled. The shop did a good job fixing it, but I knew its days were numbered at that point. It was too new to get out of until all the pandemic incentives came along.
I would have done another Canyon/Colorado, but they really didn't seem all that interested in selling them. At that point I wasn't really considering Ranger, thinking they were still too new for much discount. I started looking at full size trucks and came very close on a Silverado LT Trail Boss. The enormous size and things it doesn't come with on a $50K+ sticker made me think real hard about it and keep looking. The $6K incentive and V8 were tempting though.
The '98 Ranger SCab FX4 Off Road I bought used in 2009 had been rented by my city's PD for 8 months prior to my purchasing it.A couple of reasons...
1. After several trips to Europe, I fell in love with the few 4 door Rangers I saw over there through the decades.
2. I've been stalking Ford's Australian website for decades too! I have friends over there that used to bring me back car and truck magazines back in the day.
3. I'm a HUGE Ford fanatic. I have a Mustang GT, and my wife has a Ford Escape. My "police car" is a F150. At one point I had an unmarked 2008 Ford Ranger as a work vehicle (complete with undercover lights and sirens). My first new vehicle was a 2003 Ford Ranger.
HAHAHAHA That's pretty cool! The '98 Ranger SCab FX4 Off Road I bought used in 2009 had been rented by my city's PD for 8 months prior to my purchasing it.
It had been used to make drug buys. The dealership didn't share this with me. I was informed about this piece of its history from my brother who was an officer on the PD at the time. He nicked named the truck the narc mobile. From then on, that was how my whole family referred to it.
