Towed the SXS up to our Cabin in northern Maine 507 miles away. First time pulling on the 265/70R18’s, very happy with 10 ply’s. 3” leveling kit too, hence the squat.

I got the 2019 Lariat single cab and 16 foot box trailer in August. I only bought it and pulled it home 10 miles. The trailer has been just sitting as we fill it with our possessions. I am moving North about 1000 miles, back to the reasonable weather.

The trailer has two 3500 pound axles so can weigh 7,000 pounds. I am hoping to fill it to its max capacity. Probably I will make two trips and let it sit for storage of my stuff.

I have done a fair amount of towing in my 63 years but never with heavy trailers.

I am planning to get a larger camper for wife and I to enjoy retirement traveling. The size of the camper will be based on the max weight I think I can tow with the truck. I am thinking about 5,000 pounds. So when all loaded I may be near the limit for the truck.

I need to get a weight distributing hitch and hope I can get some advice here. I need a hitch to pull the box trailer at 7,000 pounds and also to pull a future camper.

Looking for a recommendation for a weight distributing hitch, please.

E2 roundbar with 800# bars will suit your needs. Its what I use and prefer, although there are other similar designs out there that will work just fine. The E2 combines WD and anti-sway in the same package and are fairly easy to set up and use. Reasonably priced as well.

Of course, the sky is the limit, but I'm cheap.

Thanks a lot. Will check it out!

I googled around and found them for about $550.

Do the other WD hitches tend to cost more?

Haven't looked lately. The other one that gets used is the Anderson which is about another hundred, and the Hensley which is....a lot more.

Then there are Reese and Curt which have similar designs to the E2 and can be a little cheaper.

The one that I have and like is a Husky Centerline TS. It is similar to the E2 in that it has built in sway control also. Price is also similar to the E2. Your choice as far as hitch. Just stay with one of the known brands and make sure it has built in sway control, you do not want to deal with a separate sway bar that needs to be removed to backup.

I'm sure @Grumpaw will check in as he is one of a couple who tows close to max weight regularly. He is a great resource for questions on that.

Not gonna chime in other to agree with you in that just stay with a brand name hitch set up...difference is round bar or flat bar, friction or chain type. All in same category and equal weight rating will run similar $$$
Only one I have no experience with is the Anderson Hitch.....but I've been reading up on it and it's reviews and seems to be a very good alternative to the older style....
Just my 2 cents but if I ever have to get a new set up, I think I'd try the Anderson.

I have the Husky 800# with the separate sway bar, so remembering to remove before tight maneuvers is annoying but not that big a deal, for me. I have towed without it and the bars and chain setup seem to have some sway help but I wouldn't count on it in high side winds for very far. I also have airlifts on with just manual shraeder (sp?)valves hidden in the wheel well, incase I load the bed up but have seldom needed them.
