Finally got around to updating the Ranger today. The process was uneventful and took just over 10 minutes. And, the upload of the XML file actually worked!
did you take your usb out when it told you or did you wait till after the key cycle?

Tried to install the sync update again and still won’t upload the xml file.

But I did get the map update to 2 21. Download is going now.

But curious if I can plug in the map update and just leave it plug in until it is complete? Will it continue where it left off if I don’t do it all in one driving session?

I removed the USB when it said to…

After the system rebooted on its own, it took a minute or so before it finished and gave the completed message and to remove the USB. Took the USB back to the PC, the xml was there and I uploaded it successfully on the first try.

Thanks did it the same way and mine kept giving me the error. Guess I will wait and see if it reads the update over WiFi like Ford rep said.

So it seems while I had a successful update and the software is current, and I followed instructions. I removed the the USB stick when instructed but no .xml file was uploaded to the USB after the update occurred.

WHAT YEAR IS YOUR TRUCK, MY 2019 WONT ACCEPT ANY UPDATES AND JUST FREEZES THE SCREEN
2019 Lariat, same as you.
I'm not technical enough to offer any advice, other than to say it's always been a bit of a struggle to do these updates over the years.
At this point, I'd be wondering if my original battery was getting a little poopy, and messing with a successful update?
Good Luck.

I went to download my software update and there was a separate page for map updates, so I clicked the link and put in my VIN and Ford wants to charge between $109 and $239 (5 year sub) for map updates... Is this new? This is the first time I've been requested to pay for the map update.

Charging for map updates is not new. From what I have seen, you usually get 2 or 3 free updates. For example, on my 2018 Fusion I got 2 free updates and then they started charging.

I expect that this year’s update is probably my last free one for my 2020 Ranger.

Yeah, same here. I’m not spending that kind of money to upgrade. I primarily use the Waze App or Google maps instead of the Ford Nav anyway.

Finally did my updates today Sync took 10 minutes but Ford wont accept the XL file it made. Maps took about 30 minutes. Don't see any major changes.

I made the mistake to do the update via wifi (not usb). HUGE mistake. I'm on literally 15+ hrs. & probably 15 different files. So frustrating!

just don't fret about it. drive like usual, and when you park at home it'll eventually grab all the stuff. the only way you'll notice is that one day it will pop up a "update installed" message. maybe it'll take a couple of days, maybe it'll take a couple of weeks, but so what? people are putting way too much work into an update with no meaningful benefits.

I didn't know that was an option. Thank you!

Just did the sync 3 update via usb. Took maybe 15 minutes to install. Now i have Waze as default nav option with my phone plugged in. That was the only change I found.
