Should my console gear selector illuminate at night? 2020 Lariat

My 2019 lit up. I think when they when stopped putting the Ecoboost emblems on the tailgate they discontinued the back lighted shifter as well. Penny pinching by Ford.

Do the lariats or fx4 not come with the eco boost logo? My lariat fx4 doesn’t have it anywhere, but most other rangers I see round town do

My '20 lariat doesn't light up, at least I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Also no ecoboost badge.

i think ford should have kept it lit up AND included a marker there to show what gear you are in.

why?


Personally, when i park, i put trans in neutral first, then apply parking brake, then go into park. i am just used to seeing that indicated where i am shifting. I can train myself eventually to focus on the dash but it's different than all the other cars i have had and have. my 2007 xterra for example is backlit and it tells me which gear i am in both at the shifter AND the dash. So much for that everything you need and nothing else slogan from nissan.........or wait........

I recall reading that the word Ranger on the rocker panel was illuminated with the illumination package? Does anyone have that and does it work? Mine does not.

Haven't visited this rant thread lately. What Ranger on the rocker panel are you talking about and what illumination package? Haven't seen or heard of either.

New Ranger owner here. Almost the first thing I noticed when the delivery person was showing me all the features was no shift indicator down by the shifter even with all the letters there. My malibu has a lighted gear indicator by the shifter so I've kinda gotten used to seeing it.
My question now is... Why in the heck would the letters even be there. And hearing that some Rangers have them illuminated but no indicator??? Weird, indeed. BUT...
Not near so annoying as paying for a "tow" package and not getting a brake control or even a plug and play connector.

The letters next to the shifter are lit on my Lariat. They light ONLY when the head lights are on.

I know the stick position is indicated in the instrument cluster in front of me under the speedo, but what is the point of lighting up on center console only to not indicate the stick position here too?

Is there any way to have the stick position indicated/lit here too - Perhaps with ForScan?

There is no way Forscan can accomplish this, as the electronic hardware is not there.

Note: The console indicator (backlight) has been deleted and is not lit up, I think some of the early production (US) has the same light, but they deleted it sometime in 2020. I do not believe (or I have seen) any of the Rangers actually have anything more than just a light.
My thought is the selector lever was designed to incorporate a backlight & gear indication, but Ford did not fully implement it.
