Hello All,

I am new here. I purchased my new XLT FX4 ranger about a month ago. It is in getting a few things worked on. I have a question for the XLT owners. The dealership gave me a loaner Lariat FX4 ranger. I noticed in this loaner truck that the center console has lights for the transmission gear shifter(P,R,N,D,S) and also the selector knob for the 4WD system. Should these lights also be on the XLT ranger? XLT owners, are these illuminated on your truck with the headlights on? I am asking here before I bring it up to the dealer. Thanks for your help!

The lights on my truck light up when I have the headlights turned on. I have the XLT FX4... I hope this helps

If you press the + button on the shifter, The gauge center display will show what gear you are in, but it won't in Sport.

Phooey! Doesn't work on my Ranger. I have a '19 Lariat. Does it only work on '20's?

I'm not sure. I have a 2019 XLT. Someone should come along here soon to answer that .

On my '19 Lariat the gear indicator comes up on the right hand small display. I've never thought to try it in park or reverse, but in drive just hit the plus on the shifter and it comes right up. I've read that using minus in drive you can limit the top gear it will use, but never tried it.

While you're driving in D mode press the + button on the side of the shifter and it will display on the right gauge cluster. If you press the - it will start to lock out the gears every time you press it. Press the + again and it will add the gears back.

If you’re in S Mode and press the + you now have to shift every gear with the + or it will redline! Ask me how I know?

Oh, no, Sid! Sorry you did that. I'll try again in D. Didn't work in any of the gears the first time I tried it.

Nope. It's a no go. Guess I'll have a tech check it out when I go for an oil change. Everyone, thanks for trying!

I have a '19 XLT 4x4 and I actually don't think the gear shift lights do light up in the center console. But the 4WD switch definitely lights up what ever selection you're in as well as the switch above that with the drive settings.
