Screaming tailgate damper

It's probably not the damper but the bushings in the tailgate pivot.

Mine sounded horrendous and a bit of SylGlyde and all is right with the world.

If no longer a Happy Camper
with your damper,
because for attention,
It does clamor ?

You could always pamper her,
by adding a lightly greased chamfer to her.
But, doing so,
may loose manufacturers support
after you tamper with her.

Just don’t loose your temper with the damn damper.

When the lift struts that came with my shell ARE went bad the factory warranty replaced them. The installer said do not use wd 40 or window cleaner on the struts ( I dont) cause the seals dont like it. Since damper people are always messing up and doing things uneeded with everything, that is the problem. Also when using a damped tailgate the warning should have been plug your ears while waiting for your tailgate to slowly lower. I know it is hard to hold down your skirt when plugging your ears. So, damper people need ear protectors when watching the tailgate slowly go down, also it wouldnt be a bad idea to wear eye protection too. Maybe a warning horn to alert unsuspecting people that you are opening your tailgate.

It seems below 30F my damper screams and is very slow lowering. It’s ok going up but man it sure screams going down.

Mine is exactly the same in cold weather. It was 9F out this morning when I went to work and I needed to put some supplies in the bed, and my damper squealed when it went down

The poor kid standing under the tailgate screams pretty good...then dad screams, after mom wacks him over the head for dropping it on junior... ?

Not gonna lie, the squeak was irritating me so I just took it off. I do the ol knee lower when my hands are full now.
