Thanks Duke. I saw a black supercab the other day (pretty rare) and I immediately thought "supercab for the win".

this is kind of outrageous. its only 4 years old and the last payment is feb 2025.

The 1st image that part has been replaced already on both sides but this side it has returned, not even sure any of this bs is covered still.

The 2nd image you can see the light is caused a hole on 1 side and is burning through on the other side..

It's common and there's a huge thread on this which I'll merge it with.

I have been watching mine and keeping a coat of wax on them, I have wondered for those that have had this happen - are they waxing the roof and these trim moldings since it requires either standing on the running boards or a ladder to reach the front half.

I have a hunch on what is causing it - Rain - its pushing (wind driven) under the leading edge of the trim then sits under the paint and it bubbles up and peels.

So, we need to find something to seal the leading edges to prevent this from happening.
Headlight (sealer) Possibly.
A small piece of Vinyl Trim Tape, squared off - for the appearance of blended in
IDK (Ideas)

As far as the light, that bulb had to been pretty hot to melt the plastic, both lights are on the same circuit - so it is possible dirty bulb socket (If non-led) housing.
High-Resistance - in the socket (dirty or worn contacts) on the socket or bulb base or improper bulb size - would be the cause.

it's the stock non-led bulb. I'm wondering if it shares the same circuit as the defogger. when they replaced the last black roof thing they broke the defogger pin off the window. in fact that window has been replaced twice already it's on its 3rd. the 2nd time it the defogger worked for a day then didn't work and they had to replace the window because the lines and the pin was burnt out.

Power wise no - not the same circuit
They do share a Ground Point - and it is likely that the burned contact on the heater grid (short)
caused it - since it would be the closest (user)of that ground.
The Heater Grid is a high amperage user, and that Ground (G123) is shared by the Headlight & Taillight assemblies along with the Heater Grid and CHMSL (Both the Cargo Lights & Brake Light)

Being that (it is only one side) Cargo Light - it is a possibility that the bulb socket was slightly overheated and damaged - with the lights on (does the right light appear brighter or dimmer than the left)
This would be the most likely - operation if it was damaged.
If working normally - then it just was a temporary (overheat) bulb got hotter when it was illuminated (door opening) when the heater grid was shorted.
I would replace the CHMSL and inspect the connector it connects to.

The plastic is brittle and metal under the trim is corroding. There's a few thread about this issue. It's an issue with the supplier early on.
I know this is a year-old post, but I just experienced this with mine, a 2023 built in late 2022. So I wouldn’t say they addressed it. I‘lol see the dealer in a month when I hit 30k for an oil change and see what they say.

My 2019 several years back started to corrode and Ford wouldn't warranty it. Said trim didn't fall into the 6 year paint warranty. I'm not a happy camper about it and not happy with Fords response. So, I guess I'll have to do it myself.

If it wasn't so complicated to do my self id remove them and coat them with something more resilient.
