Since I removed the entire trim and cut off a majority of it, I touched up that piece with some spray paint. Nothing else I could really do.

The plastic is brittle and metal under the trim is corroding. There's a few thread about this issue. It's an issue with the supplier early on.

Some folks had it covered by warranty, some did not. Apparently, it doesn’t fit Ford’s criteria for “perforation”, and they can easily point to car washes and the harsh cleaners they use, so most folks were/are out of luck.

You’ll have to drop the sides of the headliner to remove them - two bolts each, I believe. Then sand and paint with a rattle can. Or pay a body shop a pretty penny to do it for you.

You could always search a scrap yard for replacements that are still good.

Either way, a PITA.

There are threads - search away and good luck.

Yeah, I had mine replaced under warranty. I believe exterior parts are part of the 5 year coverage. It was an issue with the first couple years' productions.

5 year coverage even if I'm out of the regular warranty? I have 38000 miles .....

Drop the headliner that's ridiculous. They better cover this. How the hell do I do that?

Some folks were able to get it covered, some not. It all depends on how it’s input to Ford by the dealer. Some folks fail at one dealer on a warrantee claim and then have success at another. ??

You only need to drop the sides of the headliner above the door frames to access the bolts - there are threads on here that you’ll find through the search tool. Some of them are in Prinsu roof rack installation posts.

yeah this happened to me on my 2019. i wasn't gonna mess with the headliner. knowing my luck i'd screw something up and have a saggy headliner as a reward.

my solution was to stand on my truck's side steps, and put a lot of masking tape to the left and right of the rail there on the roof. then i sanded the bejesus out of the rail with some 800 grit sandpaper, then increased to like 2000 grit to smooth things out. gotta watch what you're doing and use your sandpaper wisely (sand by hand, no power tools) as the masking tape won't last long if hit by sandpaper. once done sanding i reapplied a bunch of the tape to cover off the body panel painted areas and then sprayed some matte black rustoleum on the rail. don't overdo it or it'll run on you. let it dry, then added another coat. pretty sure i did 3 coats of rustoleum spray paint.

it's been like a year since i did this and i actually was up looking at the roof of the truck this weekend. still looks great. rustoleum did awesome.

aside from the waiting for paint drying times i probably spent about 10 minutes doing this. it's the roof of a friggin truck, imo. no one ever looks up there. i'm not about to go to war with my dealer for warranty coverage over something i personally find to be so trivial.

Warranty is 3yr 36K bumper to bumper, 5yr 60k drive train. I doubt roof trim counts as drive train.

It sometimes appears as if actual drive train components don't count either, based on things we see in this forum.

I have this same issue on my '21 on the left rear. I've had such poor support from dealers, I'll fix it myself just haven't had the time yet!

I just merged 5 thread from the past 4 years on this same issue.

What's worked for me in keeping these from peeling is either the 303 Aerospace Protectant or the 303 Graphene Nano spray. Living in AZ and having both my Rangers bake in 110+ temps for 5 years while at work I've never had one peeling issue.

I'm going to have to check my '21 now. I'm too short, so I'll have to climb in the bed for that.
I hope I can handle the tailgate coming down.

Look what I found today. First image is passenger side at the windshield. Second image is drivers side looking about ready to peel.

I might try the dealership before painting myself.
