At least for some of us, the way the vehicle looks isn't the most important thing. I didn't buy the Ranger because of the way it looks. In fact, I don't think it's the best looking. It looks too much like the 10G F-150 in my opinion, which I never really liked. It's probably 3rd or 4th on my list of mid-size trucks. I think the new Nissan looks better. I bought the Ranger because of what's underneath the skin. And in my opinion, for my needs, it's the best at that. Not everyone agrees, but not everyone is me, in fact most people aren't.

Well said. I won't own a vehicle that I don't like the way it looks. I guess that's called vanity.

I was looking forward to this coming out because competition is what drives innovation. However, and I'm not being a Ranger fan-boy, it looks like a 20-year-old Chevy Silverado morphed together with a current-gen Tacoma. Not a fan at all of that styling. I can't see this being the reason any relatively loyal Ranger customer (or Tacoma customer) says, "Hang on a moment...".

Not true. Same transmission and engine is used for 2020-2022 frontiers. The 2005-2019 frontier used the same “old” 4.0 and 5-speed auto transmission. The new 3.8 direct injected V6 engine is unique and new to just the frontier as of 2020 model year. The 9-speed transmission is a (version) of the Titan’s. I drove a 2020 as stated and was not impressed. I think the old 4.0 was better in torque department.

In regard to fender clearances, you're confusing correct wheel to fender clearances (Ranger) for the stupid oversized wheel opening on all other trucks.

No I bought the most effective truck even though I prefer the styling of both the Tacoma and the Colorado - and now the Nissan - better.

Be civil. This is an opinion thread. Thats my opinion. Your fanboy zeal isn't winning you any points. I don't lead with aesthetics. The tire clearances I decided I could work with. That doesn't make them less annoying.

I can't think of many vehicles, - maybe the VW beetle, but none in recent years that had a 14 yr run with few changes to the body and drive train. Phil Schickle would probably know more about the specifics of programs in the industry but I assume for Nissan the Frontier has been a cash cow as it did have decent sales volumes.
I'm skeptical that the Frontier will enjoy the same success going forward , competition has and is increasing in the segment and it looks like Nissan decided to not invest all too heavily in the refresh, shooting for what looks to be a mid pack offering, but a lot will depend on their pricing.
Regards your test drive - assuming it has manual shifting did you try that out ? The drive train sounds like it is programmed for wringing out max mpg at the expense of low end power.

They all look like Tacoma's... from the side. Even the ranger, except for the round wheel wells.

The Pathfinder looks less Tacoma than the rest, due to the F-150 front window droop and square crew cab window.

They are all handsome trucks, however I consider the Ranger the best looking, noticeably absent is the Ridgeline. It's styling is confusing and reminds me of an Accord grafted onto a vintage Dakota's bed. At least Honda refreshed the grille, it looks more masculine...

I couldn't agree more, remember Renault's sales slogan, "the one to watch"? I learned to watch the LeCar and give it a wide berth on the road, or when it was stalled on the side of the road

I honestly didn’t try manual shifting as I felt like I was committing felony murder on the poor frontier just to see how it accelerates compared to the Ranger. Both the 2020 Tacoma and frontier had to be pushed hard to see their potential (or lack there of)

Personally, I like "dated".
Currently driving an 07 Ranger, I'll likely buy a 2021 Frontier when my Ranger finally caves. All this tech in new vehicles I don't want or want to pay for.

so you’re willing to pay $33k+ (basically same as a Ranger after rebates) for a truck that is slower, less capable and comfortable in every way because it “feels older”. In that case just keep the Ranger. Or get a V8 Sport Trac (2007-2010) if you need 4 doors. ??‍ I was the same way. The tech grows on you for sure. My recent previous vehicles were 1995, 2001, 2003, 1999, 2001. The ecoboost 2.3/10 speed alone is worth wayyyyy more to me than (less than $2k) difference in a 2020 Pro4x and my Lariat FX4.
