So, as most of you suspected, the culprit was my ignorance. My knowledgeable service manager, who drives an F150 and knows 4WD quite well, took the truck out and said what I was experiencing was definitely in the realm of "normal" in terms of bucking and lurching. When I asked why it wasn't...
Sadly, no one explained that to me when I first got the vehicle. I think my dealer might have made assumptions that weren't true, even though they knew I had never owned a pickup before. Not worried, though. They are a great small dealership in a small town and they've always treated me very...
Which are not even installed any more on my truck since it's our towed vehicle behind our motorhome. ;) My son does a lot of rock-crawling, etc., in his Toyota so I am aware of 4L, and that my chances of needing to use it are pretty small.
Woke up to all these replies this morning. Thanks for all the chiming in and help! I'm pretty sure not having any weight in the tail end is the biggest problem that I can quickly address. I'll see what they say tomorrow.
Thanks for the reply. So, being from a snowy state yourself, how do you handle driving on really crummy roads which are not plowed but you pull into a store and that lot is pretty clear? Do you just switch back and forth each time (and as I mentioned, QUITE a ways before the parking spot)?
Yeah, I've tried that but it apparently needs quite a distance to disengage the axle because even though it says "2H", the same issue exists. I would have to do this hundreds of feet away. What I've been doing is picking parking spots where I don't need to turn the wheels quite so sharply.
As...
Longish story but I want to make sure you have all the info you might ask.
Our Ranger has never needed to be in 4WD. We always live in nice weather and we don't go off-road. This year, we have to stay up in Michigan due to family reasons and we have definitely needed to be in 4WD many times...
Thanks! Yes, exact fit for size. If you look at the specs, they are so close to each other. The Hankook is about 3 pounds lighter per tire, but exactly the same height at 31.6".
One of those "what the heck was I waiting for" moments. You just don't realize how much you put up with when things sneak up on you a day at a time. Picked up the truck with the new tires and realized that (1) I could hear my stereo perfectly even at very low volume, (2) the same road was...
Sooooooooooo... the best laid plans, and all of that.
I took a closer look at my tires this weekend and discovered something. Something really bad. The tires that were cupped were the ones that had only 30K on them; the tires with 50K were fine, but obviously running out of life. I need four...
Thanks for all the help, everyone. I decided that since I'm (probably) keeping the truck only another year, it didn't make sense to change too much so I just ordered the two replacements to get rid of the cupped rear tires. I'm sure just that will improve the noise level significantly and the...
I haven't seen hardly any negative reviews. I even saw a guy who put them on a Maverick hybrid and they really popped on that, but I'd like to see them on my Ranger.
Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, basically any AT tire is more than I need! I'm probably only keeping the truck for another year until Ford gets their act together with the flat-towing issue. I want something that will make this next year a bit smoother and quieter but don't want any potential buyer to be turned off...
Thank you for the reply. I agree, I love the look. That's one reason I'm torn. At least I don't have to be in a hurry. I can live with the extra noise.
I have the original equipment General Grabber tires with probably 50K miles on the rears and 30K on the fronts. (The difference being a road hazard picked up about 20000 miles in.) I was planning on replacing the rears this summer and then moving the fronts to the back (again). When I took it...
So, you reached in and opened the door and the alarm simply sounded immediately? That's the way it USED to work but apparently, the newer (USA) versions have the countdown warning on the display panel of the truck before sounding.
