Is there any chance you had them clocked 180º from how they originally were? As I recall, there are gaps in the teeth at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions... maybe it fits smoothly in one orientation, but demands alimony in the other?
Not originally, now , I'm not really sure where the hell they are at ... the yoke does have wide spots at 12 and 6 but the splines don't seem to match that , which would be most helpful...

That is my thought as well - but he stated he marked it - if you look inside the receiver- you will note at the (index) locations the splines pick back up - and from what it appears- this is the spot it’s getting stuck

The only thing I can think of trying is to use a small file and gently file down the flat tops of the blue coating at the end of the shaft , to match the contour of the non burred splines
Im out here doing surgery , made a little blade that fits in there and trimming out some of the worst of it...

I can clearly see the flats at 12 and 6 on the yoke but I can't make out anything on the splines , I even pressed it on some paper to get the outline and to my old eyes it looks the same...

Your's seems to have way more blue than mine. Mine didn't seem to have any on the tops of the splines just in the gruves.

Yours looks brand spanking new. When I seen your last picture I thought you bought a brand new shaft from ford and took it apart already. Mine was definitely worn out like Blue Streaks there.

Plastic surgery seems to have went fairly well, you know , at one time, I thought i may want to be a surgeon, but it took a long time and I just didn't have the patients...didn't have the "pat....."... anywho, I will switch them out tomorrow and see what happens... good times...

Switched them out and all seems well now, no vibrations on a spirited test drive... mark me down for the biggest self inflicted wound in Ranger5G history and dedicate a page(or at least a sticky) to my ineptitude...

Since YOU guys brought up dear Ole dad, this one's on you ! Dad had a nickname for me when I was little...
Bocephus !!!

I got a driveshaft from Tom Woods you see ,
It seemed to work out for everybody but me ...
Now I'd like to take a shotgun, and a rifle and shoot my 4wd but the Ranger must survive.
I guess I'll use the one from a blue Ford city,
Its got too many parts and the slip joints kinda shitty ,
I went back under and got dirt in my eye but the Ranger did survive , the Ranger DID SURVIVE!

That song was lost on me and I had to Google it. It turns out, like so many things, Sr. is the one dearer to our hearts.

So - to confirm you got the slip joint back together- What was the issue? Or just you had to hold your tounge to the left?

I just kept trimming and shaving on the splines untill it started going in freely and I couldn't feel any little pieces anymore. Greased it up and it seams fine now... I wish the one piece would have worked though...
