What I have not heard you say is if you have sent out a sample of oil for analysis. If not then it’s conjecture or armchair opinion by observation. Being an engineer myself that doesn’t hold a lot of weight in your argument or what you think.

Personally I do have the reports to back up what I think. As just mentioned, haven’t heard of a blown motor yet or the issue not correcting itself once break in is finalized (set the rings) I’m going into my 3rd pile change and my level is always around the top hole or up to the twist. My reports say 1st on <.5 and 2nd <1%. I did set my rings at about 4.5K miles. I’m at about 16.5K miles now.
I sent a sample to Blackstone with the level a little over the top dot they sent me a 6% fuel dilution . That last change when I pulled the extra 36 ozs out the level was up to the twist it had to be way more than 6% more than I wanted to keep dealing with and no support from Ford. Anybody else can do what they want I had enough !

just an open question to those with fuel in the oil, do you notice the truck running differently or have any signs or symptoms other than the level on the dipstick? is any telltale showing up i should look for?
thanks

I recovered 6.75 quarts from mine at 1960 miles and have sent the sample off to see what percentage dilution that is. Simple math tells me 8% assuming a 6.2 quart OE fill, but I'll see what the chemists test tell me.
Yes it will be interesting to see the report. You will then have one data point and a very early one. Also you have no idea what the factory fill was. Now you know what you put in. Keep an eye on the level and note whether you are making short or long trips. Just don't get too excited yet.

"One data point does not make a trend."

i did notice that I am no longer getting the mpgs i usually do, but that could be because of winter. (first time having the ranger in winter). The smell is the other thing, but that ones pretty obvious. Mine is bad enough that you could get a tiny whiff when you opened the hood.

Also, Maybe i missed it in this thread, but did anyone have anything done to their evaporative system? My friends father mentioned that may be a possibility since my leak tests on injectors and fuel pump came back clean. Just thought I'd throw it out there, when I take it back when it rises again I will mention it to them.

On the 2011 thru 2014 3.5 Ecoboost in the f150, the pcv valve was a issue that they addressed with a revised valve and engine calibration. Hadn't seen anything for the 2.3 on that so far. I had a 2013 and I still carry a chip on my shoulder for that one. That was a first generation Ecoboost so it had a few growing pains.

Yeah, I remember hearing about that. I think that was when it was only direct injection and not also port fuel injection as well.

I've wondered about this too. I wouldn't be surprised if the oil is overfilled slightly at the factory like the tires are overfilled with air.

The 15 2.3 Ecoboost Mustangs had an issue with smoking at idle that was fixed with a revised PCV Valve and baffle plate along with a revised calibration. My 15 didn't have the smoking issue so it never had the TSB performed.

As for the same comment I keep reading about engines not blowing up, most people posting have fewer than 36k on the odometer. What will happen at 100k miles?

The highest miles ranger listed on autotrader for sale has 130,000 miles on it. It happens to only be 30 mins away from me. I thought about going over there and inspecting this truck's dipstick. Would any of y'all be interested?

130,000 miles?!? How is that possible with all the fuel in the oil?!! Maybe the owner drove it and changed the oil on a regular basis.

Not quite 7 days since I picked up from dealer since my last appointment, but I checked the oil today, smell is back and over full, not by much, but the smell is definitely gas. Carvana offered me more than what it is worth (should be even more when I am correctly able to add in bedliner AND cover) and I may just go that route, I'm very disappointed in Ford and dealer response to my issue. The A Plan is not worth sticking by with all the issues myself and family have had with multiple different vehicles from them.

Just got home with the truck. They wouldn't even give me the paperwork for the issue because they are still waiting on headrests for a recall. Oil is dead set at the proper line, but it also wasn't driven more than a mile(compared mileage before and after), and it only fills when driving from what I've seen. I inquired about me having to pay for an oil change when its because of a warranty issue, they said its Ford's policy's for fluid changes during warranty work. He also said if they had to change it again due to this I would pay again. Regardless ford customer service will be getting a call with my questions so I can ask questions/escalate/document my issues a second time just in case.
Ford did 10 oil changes for me under warranty.

Not to be a smart@$$ and know it's a real problem for some ... But I wonder how many will read 100 pages of this and check their oil right after shut down. See the oil on one side of the dipstick looking three sorts of crazy/up to the twist and think they have a major problem.

I say that because I've never hand another engine as picky as this one on when to check it. Either dead cold (thanks to those that pointed that out for the modern 2.3) or per the manual and fully warm and wait 15 minutes. Doing it early/wrong shows some crazy stuff on one side of the stick.
