Seems this precharge is the major contribution issue. I would be happy with eliminating it the way it is right now and to get system pressurized insert key turn to first position, wait 2 seconds and then start the truck. Problem solved! Opening the door triggering the event is idiocy as many of us are in and out of trucks if we use them for work.

Well for what it’s worth, i’ve only ran 93 octane since day 1 and full synthetic oil and I do not have this issue. Although I will be smelling my dipstick from now on lol

An interesting tidbit. I'm one of the guys with very low fuel in oil content. I'm also a guy who rarely hears the "primer noise" that you get sometimes when you open the door. The reason being is most of the time when I'm going somewhere I'll warm my truck up for a couple minutes with a remote start using the key fob. If any of you guys noticed, there is no "primer noise" when you start that way. Just a vrooom running. before leaving from work or home, a start from the key fob so it's running at least two minutes or so before I take off.

Not saying this means anything... it's just one data point. Now if we can get 30 people with low fuel in oil to chime in that they do something similar....

I start mine up with the key fob every morning as well and I do not have fuel in my oil (at least I can’t smell any)

For what it's worth i've had roughly 0.5qts of extra oil come out for every oil change (5,000 mile interval) since 2019. Yes I measure it. I just cracked 50,000 miles. I have the Mishimoto catch can and I empty it weekly when it's about 1/2 full of mostly fuel. I live at 6500 ft and do a 50/50 mix of long highway and short <5 miles drives. I did spark plugs at 35,000 miles. I took a peak in the cylinder with a scope and everything looked normal.

Did you check the gap on the plugs or notice any wear on the plugs? I'm curious why you had to change iridium plugs.

Gap was fine and because I was bored.

Well curiosity got the best of me. I just checked my oil and yep it reeks like gas. I even got a drop on my finger and the smell of gas is overwhelming.

I basically have a 25 mile highway commute which is mostly all the truck has seen so far. I’m going to send an oil sample and document with the dealership at some point just so it’s known the issue existed before any mods. I’m only going to lift the truck and put wheels and tires on it but I don’t want any dealer shenanigans down the road if there is an issue later in life.

If I remember correctly you just got your truck and only had a few hundred miles on it. I had a similar discovery and reaction with my truck at around the same mileage. The tech noted the condition and recommended to allow the engine to break in and monitor the level and smell. My truck now has 4600 miles on it and the level has stabilized and the fuel smell in the oil is no different than the last four GDI engine vehicles I have had. My driving is varied between short trips and up to 70 miles round trip commute for work.

BMW uses the same system. I had a 2009 BMW 335 and that model had significant HPFP failures. They finally found a fix and replaced mine under a recall. From that day forward the car primed the HPFP when I opened the door. Now my 2017 x5 does the same. So, it’s possible that priming process is for the health of the HPFP. Obviously, we’re guessing at this point. It could be the HPFP, or the injectors or, like the video above, it could be largely normal.

I currently have a slight fuel smell, but my level is ok. I’m not going to worry about it unless I develop a consistent overfull situation.

I believe the HPFP "primes" more often than when the door is open. For some, like me, we notice it "priming" at various different times when we are not even close to the truck with the fob. My truck is parked in a heated garage in which the front half is a workshop, complete with 4-post lift and hydraulic motorcycle lift table. I spend a lot of time out there either working on the mustang or one of my bikes. My truck will "prime" every few hours, even though the key fob is in the house and I am no where close to the truck. The field service engineer claims this is normal.

Also, let's differentiate those that have a serious issue, level rises to the twist in 500 miles, and those that just have a gas smell, or are hovering around the max level hole. It sounds like some people think it is nothing to worry about, 1-2 qts of gasoline in the crankcase.

What the heck. My truck never does this. I've been out in the garage 2 days in a row working on my motorcycles. Spend a lot of time out there. Never heard it prime once unless I open the door.

I feel like something is going on here with some people's trucks.
