I've been running 5/40 W for almost 1700 miles now don't know if it actually helped out or if it just got better on its own. Now if I throw in about a 30 mile trip a week and I can keep it down to the top hole or below. With the 5/30 It didn't make any difference what I did it would rise above the top hole sometimes to the twist. Yesterday I took about a 100 miles trip and it actually came down to about an eighth of an inch above the full mark. Don't know what changed for sure but I hope I can keep a handle on it. For awhile I thought I was heading down the same road as MotoWojo!! I'm starting to wonder if some of the rise in my case is condensation . I read some articles that stated once the fuel is diluted in the oil it doesn't burn or evaporate off. I sent a sample to Blackstone that only had 500 hundred miles on it but the level on the dipstick was above the top hole and it came back 1% fuel dilution. I had done that oil change and I had it right on the full mark!

I see you are retired so you should have some time to check me on this....lol
Instead of just taking a little 30 mile trip...why not take her out somewhere you feel comfy and just run the poo poo out of her for that 30 miles. Take her up over 100 mph a couple of times man!
Find a country road where no one is around.....stop in the middle of the road....shift into S and let her rip.....I mean rip Jim! You do that regularly....I'm willing to bet some hard earned dinero your problems will evaporate.....As Always IMHO.
Sure won't hurt her....you are stock ;)
Also....what have you got to lose? Just don't get a ticket....:sunglasses:
I am serious brother......

I'm old brother but not quite dead. I'll drink a couple shots of Captain Morgan and spool them up!!
Didn't think you were that is why I suggested some fun testing ;)

Ceratec and moly get talked about a lot over on bitog but those are really the only two I've seen that might be worth anything. It's really difficult to formulate much of an opinion beyond what's available in a google search. I've seen seemingly very intelligent people's very well informed theories get completely dismantled on that forum by lubricant engineers or formulators who pop in from time to time. They usually end up saying something like "stick with the oil in the manual". I'm honestly not that concerned about it as ultimately my driving style will determine whats best for me and that probably means I'll go with something thicker than the factory fill, which is fine unless you're hyper concerned about your warranty.

The fuel in oil issue is probably something inherent to the engine and won't be fixed by changing or manipulating one variable, it's probably a combination of things.. rich stock tunes, TGDI tendency for fuel dilution and sheeting oil, PCV system, CDFP leaks?, driving habits, lubricants, piston design, ring seating, maintenance/mechanical issues, etc and it looks like Ford hasn't really figured it out unless the combo Port/Direct injection was the magic recipe. I plan to just datalong extensively and regularly monitor the PDIs and I think as long as I do that, I'll be fine with whatever issue the engine may throw at me. I've had a good experience with that on my speed3 and I've pretty much driven the absolute piss out of it. I've probably done 10,000 WOT pulls and plenty of sustained high RPM, high load driving and I think it just requires diligent monitoring and maintenance to make that happen. YMMV.

Normally I'd agree with this but If I were having problems like some on here I'd consider it.
I totally understand...I run Lucas Oil Upper Cylinder Lubricant/Injector cleaner about every 3rd fill up. I just posted my Blackstone analysis at 33K and it’s one of the best analysis I’ve seen posted in here. I don’t go to the track like some, and I don’t run E85 like some. But I run this girl HARD everyday and she purrs like a kitty all the time. Runs so nice and cool all the time. Ford has got themselves a really good platform with these EcoBoosts....As Always IMHO
I would buy another one right now!

BTW....one thing to add, I don't run anything but 91 octane in my Ranger. I didn't start out that way, but that's where I am now. I don't even believe in 87 for these trucks like it says in the manual.

I changed my oil every 200 miles for the first 3000 miles. Last oil change was 3000 miles ago, still sitting in the middle of the hash marks. Initially smelled fuel and saw rises level every 200 miles (1/8 inch rises). Now no issues whatsoever... weird AF (fuel smell gone). Only thing I can think is that it was breaking in and that the rings were coated and took a lot longer to seat.

What is your driving style in regards to longer highway trips vs short town trips?

I have 8659 miles on my 2019 lariat 2 wheel drive. My first oil change was at 2000 miles because I wanted to switch to mobil 1 full synthetic annual as it has a lower noack number to reduce deposits on the intake valve. I regularly change oil in my vehicles around 3000 miles my driving range varies short trips to the store etc i use the start stop. I have had only one time when checking the crankcase oil level I smelt gas though the level was normal. Go figure. I think how the motor is broke in "seating the rings" does make a difference but not sure that would be the direct cause, has anyone who is having gas in oil issues had a compression check done?

Just received my most recent UOA from Blackstone Labs. I expected the fuel dilution to be higher as a result of lower temperatures.

I'm not pleased with the increased fuel dilution but have decided to monitor the wear metals count going forward. The powertrain warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles as I recall. With the cost of oil, filter and UOA, I figure an oil change is around $80 USD. Currently doing at 4000 miles in winter but may drop to 3000 miles.

FYI, I sent an email to The Fast Lane truck YouTube site suggesting they do a video on this issue. I would encourage others to do the same. Their email address is :

The only way to fully understand this concern and get Ford's attention is visibility.

Cheers

Great idea! I just sent them a lengthy email, briefly outlining the problem. I encouraged them to check out the forum if they didn't believe what I was saying and to please let the public know about it. I would encourage others to do the same.
Peace

Started my frustration claim with Ford.

2020 XLT Ranger. Engine build date 02/20. Purchased in 08/20.

First oil change 1/11/21.
Ordered Blackstone Report on 2/1 for kicks and giggles. Checked oil one month after oil change (2/11/21) at fuel fill up. Dipstick was 1-2 inches above max fuel line. At twist.

Blackstone report yielded 3.5% fuel.

Dropped off at Ford this morning with complaint of oil being high, and smelling like gas. Will keep you all updated.
