Hi everyone - It seems like my right rear Fox 2.0 shock has gone bad. It's a bit frustrating because I've only put about 18,000 miles on the shocks, and spend more than 95% of the time on-road. I assume it won't be covered under warranty, and I also assume I will have to send the shock to Fox to get rebuilt (which is about 12,000 miles before I was going to be considering getting them re-built), and this is based off of chatting with @Stage3Motorsports (where I purchased the front and rear shocks).

Because of all of this, I am considering just getting a new set of rear shocks. I know about many of the options out there, but does anyone see any issues with putting a different brand of rear shocks on the back i.e. Old Man Emu, Bilstein, Eibach, etc.? Just something that I don't have to worry about rebuilding down the line.

I do plan on replacing the front coilovers down the line as well, but I'm hoping that I can at least make it to the 30,000 mile mark with those before I replace.

Thanks ahead of time for the advice!

If you have Fox 2.0 coilovers, I'd stick with Fox rears. At least they don't cost a lot and are easy to DIY.

If it were me I would get cheap-o’s or put factory take-offs back on, send them both back to FOX and let them pick up the tab for shoddy shocks. No reason to be needing a rebuild that soon and they know it.

Do this at a minimum. Don't throw money at a new set of worse shocks, Fox are tip top. It's conceivable you've got a one in 10,000 bad part that escaped QC

I don't think I'm with you here. There's a slew of great stuff out there. I just took off my Fox 2.0 stuff and replaced it with Bilstein 6112's & 5160's. I figured this would be a cost effective temporary solution until I figured out what I really want and have the money to do it. I don't feel that way anymore. I really like this stuff much better than my Fox setup. I have no plans to change except maybe a heavier set of springs next year. A few months later, I added the Icon leafs. They're pretty sqeaky, but then so am I. I really feel more dialed in now than I did before. Very happy!
Bottom line.... There are so many options. Don't feel Like you have to be locked in to any one.

I prefer not flushing money down the toilet buying multiple aftermarket parts for the same solution and instead researching. Buy once cry once is what I learned, not buy many times chasing ghosts.

Bad luck.

I would just pop it off and send it to Fox for a rebuild. Maybe try a sad story to get it expedited due to its early demise and the inconvenience of it all…

I kept my OEM shocks for when it comes time to send my FOX 2.0s in for a rebuild. If you’ve done the same, I would do what @Trigganometry suggested above - put those on and send the FOX shocks in.

If you tossed your OEM units you might be able to pick up a set of take-offs super cheap online or even free in the 5g marketplace. Heck, we have enough members with modified suspensions in CO, you might even find someone who’ll loan or give you their OEMs so you can do it. They take up a lot of shel space!

I’m not cheap but I just don’t see the need to spend hundreds more to replace them when they’ll be just like new after a rebuild and FOX might step up for you.

Has anyone had shocks rebuilt from Fox? Curious on how long they take tk get back to you.
Yes - I would also be curious to know price and timeline for those who have done it before.

The Bilstein 5160's look nice. So you're saying you think they have been a slight upgrade from the Fox 2.0s?

Those are good points. The issue is a I gave away my FX4 shocks to a buddy who has an XLT. So I will need to find something to put on in the meantime if/when I send in the Fox shocks.

A rebuild is $75 for the 2.0, plus shipping. See this page for more details.

I've not had it done, so can't speak to the timeline.
The Bilstein 5160's look nice. So you're saying you think they have been a slight upgrade from the Fox 2.0s?
It comes down to personal preference. They handle different. Both are good options. Fox is softer, either linear or progressive valved (I can't remember). Bilstein is firmer, digressive valved.

Those service intervals are brutal! I'm overdue on almost all of them.

Try Fox mountain bike shocks for a brutal service interval. I rebuild mine once a year, but should really be doing twice a year. Similar cost to truck shocks, but the local shop can do them. Usually $150ish for both the fork and rear shock.
