Engine cover (revisited)

Consider this one from JCR. I have their 2.7L version on my Bronco. It is very well made, heavy metal, uses mount holes already on the engine, comes in black. They have sales around various holidays too. (photo is the 2.7 on my Bronco.)

Hmmm.....do you think that Ford Engineers deleted it due to engine overheating? Or do you think the Ford bean counters dropped it to save money? I added it back because I believe the latter.

Our 2.3 isn't air cooled...the cover does little to nothing to increase or decrease under hood temp...it's made of light weight foam...but it's worth it's weight in GOLD! ?

It is actually quite reasonably priced. Watch for % off sales around various holidays. They will likely have a sale Memorial weekend. It cost me more to have it painted than the cover itself.

I have the JCR cover on my Ranger, with a slight modification I did, to clear my BOV. Pics are in my build thread below.

I had the OEM foam one, when it was less than $100 shipped, but when it soared to $250+, I said screw it and looked for different options

Not a total deal breaker but I'd like a blue one to match my velocity blue paint (well, not match exactly but you know what I mean...)I know, I'm geeky like that. Thanks in advance.

It was simple to install! It comes with all the hardware and brackets needed. It came with some extra pieces, that weren't even needed...? Zero instructions included... You have to download them on their site, but I just had my laptop beside me, while I installed it.

If you have aftermarket parts, like I do, you're going to have to modify it, like I did

It would be easy to sand and paint a different color. Whatever they used to spray it black, chipped off easily, although I was cutting it and heat was involved, LOL!

Also, ignore all these comments on here about extra heat in the engine compartment, LOL! I have aluminum aFe charge pipes and they've never made the engine bay any hotter than when it was stock... People just like to complain about everything..

I was thinking about getting one until I found out the Engine Cover is responsible for the carbon buildup on the valves , and also causes erratic shifts and early transmission failure, that coupled with it also being responsible for the drive line vibration and the number one suspect in the "fuel in oil "saga made it a "No" for me ...they do look good though...

I was thinking about getting one until I found out the Engine Cover is responsible for the carbon buildup on the valves , and also causes erratic shifts and early transmission failure, that coupled with it also being responsible for the drive line vibration and the number one suspect in the "fuel in oil "saga made it a "No" for me ...they do look good though...

You soak it in rat poison and it solves that other issue.

Why doesn’t the Mustang cover remind you of the speedo? That cover is just a bad idea to me. You have to remove it to change the oil and when you do you have to be very careful not to lose those Ace hardware pieces that are not locked in like oem. Then you have to cut a corner off it which looks a little amateur. Then you have extra bolt heads poking up above the cover as well as the recessed factory bolt holes with no bolts. Sorry, just garbage to my eyes….but not to some as you say.

I look at his attempt as prototype #1. Most of your concerns can be rectified with extra work and effort.
I just cant get past the extra heat either cover will retain and any long term effects that may bring to wire, hose and engine components, just to look pretty. Its like layering your clothing for the winter, but keeping that attire all year long.
Covering up the ugly hasn't outweighed that concern as of yet, if its even a concern. Haven't seen anyone do a temp comparison for data.

FYI TSB 23-2011

2 questions about that TSB: 1. Can I try to get this through my dealer using this TSB even if I'm not seeing the check engine light caused by the water in spark plug well? 2. The TSB is only currently for the 19-22, will/does it still apply for my 23MY?

A simple fix to all your concerns is to add a TG damper - problrms soved.

If there were a concern about 'extra heat' Ford, and other auto manufacturers, would not have designed the engines with covers in the first place. The engine covers aren't aftermarket add-ons. Many Rangers, Mustangs and Broncos had them from the factory before 'supply chain issues'.
