Last weekend, I decided to climb into the bed using my usual method of grasping the side rail and stepping up onto the rear tire. After shuffling some stuff around, I decided to exit the bed via the tailgate, which was in the fully-upright and latched position. I reached down and unlatched the tailgate. Not wanting it to slam open on the cables (which probably would have survived the impact) I proceeded to lower it gently into the open position. Everything was going well, until a white-hot lightning bolt of pain hit my surgery-needing arthritic shoulder.

So today, I turned-in my Man Card and installed the damper.

And another one bites the dust!

I'm not there yet, I have considered it, I should already have one if you add up the 4 shoulder surgeries, 4 knee surgeries, 1 back surgery, and looking at 1 more knee and possibly 1 more back chop job.
I look at it as a challenge, at what point do I give in and go to the dark side? I at least want to wait until I get my AARP membership:oops:

Since the damper debate is in full swing, I made a special meme just for you guys (I actually made this one before but I couldn't find it so I made a new one)

I'm not anti damper, but I don't consider it useful at all. The only thing it does is waste my time, when I could other wise be putting stuff in the box instead of standing there waiting for the tailgate to open fully.
Yeah, you could probably go build a garage in that 3 seconds... I start putting stuff in as soon as there is a big enough gap.

You said you don't understand so I politely explained my view. Obviously not building a garage, but why stand there watching it when I could be doing something.

As far as the bold, I guess I was confused when you said the opposite in your last post...

" And I gotta say when the temps drop, the damper is even slower, giving even longer time to make sure you're ready to throw that crap in there."

For the record I also don't push the handi-cap button at a retail door, and wait for the door to open. I reach for the handle and push/pull it open then walk through, or hold it for others.

Not sure why your panties are bunched.

Medical exemptions are approved.
This is how it starts.

First we allow medical dampers for the infirm. Next thing you know Dr.s are writing recommendations for 20 year olds with "bad backs."

Slippery slope, my friend.

Um, not opposite. Just have to wait a little longer to start throwing stuff in.
My panties are not bunched. Just don't see why 3 seconds sounds so long. I would bet if you timed holding the gate and guiding it down to a soft opening, to flicking the latch and letting go with a damper (not on a cold day) you would find the difference is minimal.
Thanks for praising yourself. But not sure it's relevant.

This is a great thread!!!.

Considering all the bruhah hahhah that went on over a damper being mentioned period, it is readily apparent that everyone secretly needs this to refocus the angst over throwing a rod or fueling the oil or running 45's should I level up...

Thanks Dennis, the Dampern8or is happy now!!
