Hey Everyone,
Not to pile into the daily post of 10r80 threads but I am another victim. I purchased my 2020 2 years ago with 47k that was CPO. Luckily I have the ford ESP for 7 years 100k miles. The truck currently has 69k on it and started exhibiting cdf related issues. I first noticed harsh engagement in cold weather in D Or R. Things have gotten a little worse since then. Currently waiting to hear back if they'll repair or replace. My dad is a senior master mechanic for Ford and says basically a large population is affected. If you have any harsh engagement issues and are under warranty don't wait to get it looked at.

Indeed, my dad's dealer has no less than 20 10r80s stocked at any given time. They do several every week. He never does a repair under esp because they always come back. Every one he touches gets a new box.

I worked at a ford dealership not long ago an they had about 20 of the front wheel drive 6 speed cars lined up with bad transmissions. Ford needs to hire of decent transmission engineers.

Getting scared as mine just got a new CDF drum not too long ago and the valve body was cleaned (previously). Does it mean I have a problem waiting to happen, or should it be good?

The only thing that would give me concern is the “cleaned” valve body. But if it was truly cleaned properly and fresh fluid ( and some Lubeguard) you should be good.

I went from the bad focus DCT to the bad ranger 10 speed! At this point I’ll deal I’ll take a two speed that works.

I remember the 2-speed Powerglide in our old '68 Impala.

And here I bought the Ranger because in my mind I said, "The 10R80 is the same transmission used in the 450HP Raptor. It should be rock solid behind a 4 cylinder."

Famous last words.

Going to look at a ZR2 tomorrow. A friend is a Chevy salesman and said he can get me a good deal on it. The dealer offers a free lifetime powertrain warranty.

Of course, this right after I bought a ton of stuff for this truck.

But after the last drop off for HVAC issues and transmission issues and another "No Problem Found" (no, they didn't do the pressure test indicated in the TSB because they didn't have the equipment), I am honestly about done with this thing. Upon leaving the dealer I had cold air on the driver side and heat on the passenger side. And it slammed into 4th gear.

It's becoming like a bad girlfriend. I hate it one day and love it the next.

In my past experience with bad girlfriends, the only lasting solution was a different girlfriend.

Fortunately Ford seems to have a lot of 10 speeds in the pipeline. My dealer's 30 year wrench told me that initially he repaired faulty 10-speeds but because of repair returns, now only does replacements. He can get one in 1-2 days. I did not ask whether replacements are new or Ford rebuilds.

Was it as smooth as that name makes it sound? Only have been in vehicles post 1990. I truly wish manuals were still offered on most vehicles besides sports cars. Might even learn to drive a semi truck 18 speed if that is what it takes

It is my understanding that many road tractors are now being built as automatics. I don't know how many new students are being trained on manual transmissions, but I sure hope it's all of them.

I understand where you are and feel your pain. I'm in the same boat. I am soured on Ford.
