Interesting, thanks for the replies everyone. I sometimes wonder if maybe the gas nozzles are just too heavy for the Easy Fuel system? When I put a nozzle in, it like weighs down the gas hole until it sags far enough that the auto shutoff happens
It would move a little, but it shouldn't sag a lot. That may be your problem. I would have the filler looked at to make sure its connected properly.

The nozzle gaiters that some states have can be a nuisance. I've not had to fuel the Ranger with such a nozzle, but on my Mariner, I had to push upwards while inserting the nozzle to get it to stop shutting off prematurely, and run it on the slow notch.

I have had 5 Fords and 2 Mopars with the capless fuel fillers and never had an issue with them prematurely kicking off.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Mine has shut off but verrrrrry few times. 95% never have a problem with. Found out/experimented and if you use the first nozzle stop instead of fast, fuel will flow easier and not cut off.
+1!
My experience exactly. Every time I fuel up 1st stop it is.

Using some huge industrial pumps? Not being a wise ass, I had issues with my first diesel and the semi pumps before. Hard to hold at a certain angle. But diesel foams, same but different concept.

Mine is very finicky as well, regardless of gas station. It's somewhat frustrating. The rubber bumber definitely pushes the nozzle in odd ways to disengage...

Do you happen to have these bumpers on your local pump? Regardless, it may indeed have something to do with the angle of the handle... I have never had this issue with my Ranger, to answer your question. But I have experience working on older sports cars, like an older 911 for example, you need to refuel with the handle upside down because the angle of the handle will cause it to shut off..

My theory is if you had these little bumpers on your state pumps that maybe it's pushing the angle of the nozzle down too far and causing shutoff. I feel like I've used this style pump before with no issue but this is the only thing I can think of that would cause the nozzle to not go all the way in...

Soooo glad they never mandated these fuel vapour recovery bellows where I’ve lived. What a PITA they are and I cursed them every time I was filling up my older Ranger or my rental car whenever I was in a state that required them.

Is there any data that shows they actually provide any benefit? Hate ‘em.

They prevent maybe half of the raw hydrocarbons from entering the atmosphere while you spend 6 minutes fueling up. Without them the atmosphere would thicken up like the planet Venus.

Stick it in, fill the tank, pull it out and done.

No issues so far.

In the interest of transparency and friendship, Duke, I googled "Fuel Nozzle Bumper" because I didn't even know the name / purpose for them. I thought they were to stop fuel handles from bumping fancy cars

Bumpers, bellows, whatever they’re technically called Adam, I hate ‘em. They‘re so big and awkward, they’re probably more likely to scratch up fancy cars. ?

We have them here and in AZ and have never had any problem using them. Also my last 4-5 F150's were cap-less and never any issues with them either.

Now where I did have issues is when I was trying to fill my motorcycle. You have to hold the collar back just right and then be able to look inside the tank so it doesn't overflow. Not the end of the world but still a PITA. Yup, first world problems! ?
