I've been frustrated with the cap-less fuel filler since i bought my ranger. CA law requires the bulky "vapor recover hood" on every gas pump hose nozzle. .

I ALWAYS have one of two problems...

#1: I cannot get the nozzle to latch onto the Easy Fuel hole and end up having to hold it in myself until it is done filling, otherwise it backs out and stops fueling.

#2: Whenever is does latch on, it become stuck, and i either have to twist the nozzle back and forth or slam it in and out to remove it.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Its pretty annoying.. its the same situation every time no matter what.. at this point i think i would prefer just a standard fuel cap.

Hi Danny,

The capless system has been around for quite a few years, so is a bit puzzling that you have this problem. Are you filling up at a particular station each fill-up? If you are a regular at a particular station, trying another station might offer an opportunity to see if it is the pump handle more so than the capless system. I might also suggest a visit to the dealer to investigate if you have some sort of defect with the capless receptacle. Hope other California forum members can chime in here.

Sad you are having difficulty.

Phil,

I have the issue at every station here in CA.. I noticed that its occurs less with newer looking nozzles. I've resorted to just holding the trigger manually until it finishes.. Like i said, sometimes it latches on just fine.. but then i end up having to pound it off and i feel like I am going to jar something loose eventually.

Hi Danny,

My experience in my Lincoln's when we visit California is not with the fueling per se, but I feel like I am fighting an Anaconda to get the nozzle to cooperate, but once the nozzle has been defeated in this fight it has not been a problem and since this has not bubbled up much on these Forums leads me to believe there is something wrong with you system and since you are under warranty, try the dealer investigation route and as you said, maybe some free gas!

Good luck!

I recently drove into Nevada, and had to get gas. I thought I had grabbed the Diesel pump! It's been a while since I've been outside of CA.

Sometimes I have had this issue with the fuel nozzles. There seems to be a very defined spot for the nozzle to lock into and every so often it does not cooperate.

I'm in California and have this same issue with both my Ranger and 2016 Mustang. I just hold the nozzle. The last time I tried to let it hook in and rest, it popped out about 15 seconds later and splashed fuel on my Mustang when the nozzle hit the ground.

Yup, us Californians have to hold the nozzle. Poor design.

Next time once you put the nozel in the fuel filler neck. Give it a little push in there to make sure it seals. I had a similar issue when I was in CA with their pumps. I'm used to just putting the nozel in the fuel neck and it works everytime. But on all CA pumps I had to give it a little push so it seals or something. Horray CA :curse:

I absolutely detest, abhor, despise, loathe, and in all possible ways dislike the cap less filler setup. ????? There is nothing in this world that fills me with disapprobation towards an inanimate object more than the cap-less filler.

I typically refuel when I get to 1/4 of a tank and without fail it cuts the pump off and burps up and out the filler after 4.25-5 gallons have been pumped in. After that the only I can resume filling is if I keep it at the lowest notch setting on the handle for at least 2 gallons. If I go any faster it instantly stops the pump. Only after spilling gas down the side of the truck, then adding a near extra 5 min to the fill up time can I resume full flow to finish filling the tank. Then to rub salt in the wound when I remove the pump nozzle and the trap door closes even if the flow has been stopped for a minute or more from the depths of the ether the fricken thing pukes a little bubble of gas up once again.

I swear it's like trying to feed a 3 month old split pea baby food....

I have taken it to the dealer and I bet you can guess what they said?

"Couldn't replicate the reported issue." :punch:

I even went back when I was low on gas and they had one of their tech walk to the gas station next door and wouldn't you know it this miserable bastard wouldn't do it...
