I'm interested in trying the global springs, but can't find a good source for them. Digging around on eBay just shows a bunch of recyclers selling them onesie-twosies. I'd be ok with used springs, but would prefer new ones... is there a source for OEM Ford global parts that won't absolutely kill me on shipping?

They are gonna be used. I bought mine from the UK as did many other members. You won't be able to get them new.

Mine were listed as new take off's that were removed for an airbag conversion. I think most are.

Mine were the same, new pull offs for the airbag conversion, at the time I started this post they had 50 sets or something like that.

Need another fleet of trucks to get converted?

Hello All,

Planning on installing the global leaf springs this weekend. I've never messed with leaf springs before. Is there anything I should watch out for so I don't mess something up? (I'd consider my mechanical level beginner/intermediate. I'm fine changing oil and spark plugs. I've watched some YouTube videos and it seems pretty straight forward).

Can I do one side at a time....meaning jack up one side while keeping the tire on the ground on the other or does the entire rear need to be off the ground?

Thanks for the help.

You can do one side at a time.

Watch for the spacer that is on the driver side leaf. The passenger side doesn't have it.

Very straightforward procedure.

One thing to keep in mind is the U-bolts.

While I don't have experience with the global leafs, when I installed Tremor leafs into my truck the FX4 U-bolts were too short.

Here Are My Swap Steps

I wouldn't recommend doing one side at a time with the other tire on the ground. The spring with the tire on the ground is under load and the one you are changing is hanging lower since it is not under load. The axle will not be horizontally level in relation to the frame and will make it difficult to line up the leaf spring bushing since they will be slightly angled. Placing a jack under the axle to level it makes it hard as well since you are now trying to line up the bushings under a simulated load.

It's much easier to have both tires off the ground. Place a jack under the side of the axle you are working on. You can then lower and raise the axle as needed when you remove the old spring and install the new one.

The stock U bolts are too short. There was a link on here for a size that works. I ordered them an they had an extra .75 of threads showing. I think they were from 4 wheel parts.

One thing I had to deal with on the set I got was the spring perches were removed so I had to take the ones off the stock springs an put them on the global springs. These have the centering pin on them to align the axle. This gave me a bigger problem that the swap, which is pretty straight forward. I think I used a big C clamp to press them on the new springs.

You may want to raise the truck evenly with the wheels off the ground.

One side on the ground will make the axle crooked to the frame like mentioned above.

It is really important you do not torque the front spring bolt up in the air, it must be done on the ground, the bushing can get damaged if it's made to twist after torquing, it's best to neutralize at ride height any rubber bushing with the fixed steel sleeve before torquing, the rears don't matter, they are a floating bushing.

Depending upon how high you want the truck, if the new leafs have the 2nd overload, it can be removed but you may need a shorter pin.

Lang mentioned the spring perches, they will need to be put on, in the UK they have the round U bolts over the top so they don't use the US type spring perch, get some big C clamps!

Any pictures of this swap of the perches? What center bolt/pin did you use to attach the perch?

If I remember correctly I used the global spring bolt and clamped the old spring and removed it, clamped the new spring and installed it.

You said you removed a leaf, so the global spring bolt would work. Not sure it will if I leave all the leaves installed. I wonder how others did it?
