I was within the warranty (40K) and because plugs and coil packs are "consumables" they exempted themselves.

Got raw-dogged in the @$$ by Ferd and had to pay $700 / $800 some odd dollars. Fought it all the way up to Corporate and sent letters to the NTSB and congressmen (might as well while you can copy and paste relevant info). Got no-where. Was a Ford Customer for life until this happened. The way they treated me and the transmission problems people were complaining about here led me to believe that my relationship with Ford was bad and not going to get any better.

Fuck Ron Hubler and Peoria Ford.
^^ I add this to every post about this topic I can find hoping it starts showing up in google searches.
It's insane that they are getting away with this criminal behavior

I'd ease back the claim its criminal behavior.
Companies can write a warranty any way they see fit.
Its part of your purchase to understand the warranty and know what it covers / not covers, how much and when.
Its also part of marketing, a warranty with massive perks attracts customers. One with a white line drawn in the sand and as soon as you cross it its null and void won't get you many customers.
Ford has a pretty reasonable warranty, on par with literally most manufacturers.
Sometimes those who fall on the line or slightly over and are denied, walk away from the company all together.
Just like us consumers, manufactures win some and lose some. ?‍♂

Agree on the warranty , but this is a design flaw and Ford should have to eat it every time it happens , TSB proves they were aware of it ... Cadillac had what they called "campaign bulletins " on things like this , didnt matter age or milage , they ate it , as they should . Ford should be embarrassed and apologetic that this even happened , not fighting to keep from paying up ... im mad as hell about it and it didn't even happen to me , just knowing that RIGHT NOW , AS I TYPE THIS , some poor oblivious Ranger owner is sleeping soundly while his plugs are welding themselves in place ...

I threatened them with a lawsuit! They honored their warranty, once they I saw that I was about to call out their criminal behavior! Check it out! : (1) Engine Cover TSB 21-2147 Warranty Voided | 2019+ Ford Ranger and Raptor Forum (5th Generation) - Ranger5G.com
I'm glad that the dealer/Ford agreed to warranty your vehicle. But I bet it was the threat of bad publicity, not a threat of a lawsuit. Ford has full time lawyers to handle these cases. They have a way of dragging these out for many years, and by the time you would agree to settle, your truck would have been nearly worthless.

its also just like when your wife is yelling at you, and its just easier to agree with her, bite your lip, take the trash out and move on.

Most places I have dealt with immediately stop conversing with the person who threatens a lawsuit. Its now only your lawyer their lawyer will respond to. If it didn't go that far, they did not take you seriously. It was hush money so to speak. You may have won, but it was a teeny tiny loss to them.

even a design flaw isn't really against the law, its just bad business practice.

Pretty much my experience too today.

Had to pay like $200 to replace rusty plug and coil boot. No engine cover provided under TSB or warranty. I'll need to buy that on my own.

Yea I'm a little pissed at how this truck was made and how they won't fix this after. Pretty much have a truck I can't wash or drive in the rain

Walter,
Thank you for your informative posts on this issue which I've have been following. You did the right thing!...sometimes you have to strongarm the dealers to get results. When I was a kid, employed and still living at home bought a Chevy and which that model later was proven and substantiated to be a lemon.

The dealer kept jockeying me around even after going through the proper protocol for a grievance with Ford Administration. My Dad knew how to solve this issue. On one of his days off we went to the dealer's at opening time and he handed the keys to the Manager and told him we were going to sit in the waiting room until the problem was fixed...after several hours he got nervous, called us in and give me the keys to a brand new car and took back the lemon without any arguments.

During this time period some of the vehicle manufacturers had secret warranties for certain issues (not sure if this is still the case with them today) they wouldn't reveal until you put enough pressure on to get them to deliver. Great to hear that other Ranger owners on this site backed you up... :like:

Damn...I had a 68 Monza, and loved it. Only problem I ever had with it was it's ability to throw the fan belt off the pully under hard acceleration from a stop. Once you started off in first and than hit it, never a problem.
Guess it's like the Rangers...get a good one and never have a problem....get one made on a Monday by a Sunday drunk, and problems galore !!!
