I have a 2020 ranger and it looks like you can buy the stick on door keypad for $100, but it takes the dealer to program it to the car. I have called two dealers. They act like I have asked them plan a moon shot. One told me he "thinks" it will be $99 to program it, the other wants $360 for the whole thing installed.

Has anyone found a better way or place than the dealer?

Thanks

I have the key pad on my 2019 Ranger. It came with instructions when I got it. I think you can do it yourself. My original one died within a month of having the truck because there was a problem with the battery not lasting.

I would order the part and check it first before paying to program it through the dealer.

Yes, the dealer will have to program it for you. Maybe try a different dealer for a better price?

Maybe: Wireless keypad - FORScan Forum

" Try using the same process as programming a new key fob from your owner's manual. The stick on keypads are treated by your vehicle as a regular key fob. The codes are stored in the keypad itself as opposed to the DDM or equivalent module "

"2015+ F-150 needs Ford SW to enter keypad serial into the system.
The question is - is it possible to do the same with forscan?"

I just did this. I ordered the keypad thinking I could do it myself but alas it is impossible without ford software. When I went in for my first oil change I walked over to my sales guys office and shot the breeze. Told him I had bought the keypad and that service wanted a full hour labor to do what I’ve seen done online in a video in 10 minutes max. And that was with the tech giving step by step instructions so anyone who knows the process can do it even quicker.
Sales guy talked to service guy and next thing I know the warranty guy walked over and programmed it and it was free.
The sales guys may be able to help you out. I told mine I’m glad to pay but not for a full hour of labor.

No doubt but I still have to take my phone out and open the app and wait for the unlock signal vs. just punching in 5 numbers and the door unlocks. There’s a use case for both
haha...I unlock my car while walking to the truck...or, I can also use the key fob remote? I can only think one thing the key pad can do without the key is if you locked them in the truck...but then...I still have the phone?

Whatever you do, DO NOT LOSE THE CARD that comes with the Keypad. That is valuable information to have should you choose to recode. Lots of posts here on that for owners who bought used and the previous owner left it out of the truck, thus having to buy a new keypad, dealers will not program the keypad without the original code on that card.
They should be able to check by VIN for it, but they won't do it and force you to spend $ on a new one.

Any shop with the right tool can do it, the local repair shop did it for me, they have to have the equipment just to work on the Fords he said, it does not have to be the dealer.

My 19 has it. Was an option I did not want so they took it off the price. I know I probably paid for it anyway but makes me feel better. Anyway I will have to check to see if it works I never use it I always have my key in my hand as I need it for the ignition. :like:

I had mine done at the dealer but it was not an easy thing for them to do, I had to go back at least once to get done right. I seem to recall that it was included in the purchase agreement.

I really liked having the option, and I don't always walk around with keys or phone in my pocket. And Fordpass was good, but by the time the signals travel to outer space and back a few times I could just go get the keys off the hook:cool:
