Ah, I believe the dealer had pre-installed a security system. I said I didn't want it so I never had paid for it. It's not activated as far as I know. I wish it was removed before taking ownership. Assuming this is what it is?

Yep it's the button for a KARR security system. I used Google lens and actually found another Ranger5g.com thread. As well as this Honda thread.

Ha, Google lens is pretty amazing. It told me the exact breed of my dog so the algorithms are trained well!

I simply hate the dealerships that do this!

You will likely find they messed up a wiring harness under your dash to splice this in where it doesn’t belong - likely left an alarm component in there too. I’d raise this with Ford Customer Service, then let your dealer know they need to make it like new, including replacing that interior panel those asshats screwed that switch into.

I’m curious - did you order the truck and wait or was it on the lot?

From the lot. Yes, I wouldn't be pleased if I ordered it, but somehow being on the lot, I'm not upset other than the fact this it's a shady practice.

We special ordered with the very first specific instructions to not install any dealer added BS. They did it all... security, etched glass, nitrogen filled tires, etc.

Security device was the same as yours and drilled into the lower panel. Wires wrapped around the hood cable. Sales blamed service while service blamed sales.

We didn't pay for any of it and had them remove the security crap and replace the panel. We did get to keep the cute little green valve stem caps. Nitrogen did not last through many airing downs.

What a racket.
