What is the average going rate per hour at a service shop? I told the Ford garage I had my own shocks for the upgrade and they quoted me $98 - $149 to install the rear shocks. I asked the same thing at a small service shop and he said probably would take about 30 minutes then quoted $85 - $90 dollars. I really don't have a friend or family member to put them on for me, so I will be paying.

Thanks for that info.

I know years ago when the going rate at the service shop I used (part of a regional chain) charged $60/hour labor... unless you brought your own parts to install, then they charged $90/hour.

So I guess I'm in the average ball park of what's being charged.

It should be pretty cheap. Its just unbolting and bolting back on. Took me around 45 mins to do it myself

Since I was quoted anywhere from $85 to $148, is that considered cheap for putting rear shocks on?? If they are charging by the hour, no matter how simple it is to do, if it takes 45 minutes then I guess I get charged by whatever their hourly rate is.

Thanks. I guess I will go with the small local shop... partly because it's more convenient, only 1 mile from where I work and they said I can sit and wait on it rather than drop the truck off.

The local guy will treat you right by what you just said. He wants your return business.

I paid $55 last year to have them both installed at a local wheel and tire store that specializes in trucks. That's a half hour labor. As per what I read on the other post, I think I'm getting ripped off on the front end because they're charging me an hour labor per side plus an hour labor for alignment. Business is probably down because they're having a hard time getting certain parts I suppose so I'm not really happy about paying three hours labor to install my front shocks which will be the Bilstein 5100 leveling shocks. I'm only committed to paying for the shocks at this moment so I think tomorrow I'm gonna call a few truck places over in Orlando and get a quote. Stick with the smaller guy if they have a good reputation. I always check Google reviews and the BBB. Good luck. You'll love losing the bouncy, especially when cornering. Combined with my Continental tires, my baby rides so much smoother.

An hour per side on the front is reasonable for something like the Bilsteins, where the entire assembly needs taken apart.

Shouldn't take long. I did it myself in about 20 minutes. Only two bolts per shock.
