Why are Tacoma owners like “this?”
I’m truck shopping, and as part of it, I’m reading forums and Facebook groups for trucks I like. It seems that Tacoma owners simply cannot compliment or acknowledge that a non-Toyota truck is as good as their beloved Tacoma. Their blinders are absolutely ridiculous.
When I see folks posting in the Tacoma Facebook groups that they’ve bought a Chevy/Ford/Ram, it only takes a second before the “good luck with your new piece of crap truck”, “you’ll be back; those trucks are total crap”, “you’re an idiot for leaving the Tacoma” etc.
It’s like they take it so personally that someone dares to buy a non-Tacoma truck. Yet if someone talks about weak & rusty frames (Toyota is still replacing rusted out frames), drum brakes, poor shifting transmissions, no front locker, a rear locker that only works in 4LO, etc. , those guys are jumped on by the fanboys, often times with childish & personal attacks.
I’ve always gone with the mantra of “Drive what you like; Like what you drive.” I just don’t get the childish hostility these guys have against anyone who dares question the Tacoma. It’s like a cult of “brainwashed” owners.
And yes, I’ve had a Tacoma before. It was nice, but far from perfect.
Your thoughts?

Perhaps part of the issue is 'facebook', but I've seen that stuff on other forums, too. To be fair, there are some of the ford fanbois here, too, but not nearly as bad.

It's the internet. Everybody with a keyboard has a voice. That's not always a good thing. A person might be a uneducated putz who cleans outhouses but on the internet they believe they are Steven Hawking. I try not to take it too personal.

I think it has more to do with our Rangers constantly blowing them off. It has to be very frustrating to be the losers all the time no matter how hard you try while beating your chest! Just Friday morning saw another new Yoda Turd broke down on the highway. As I drove by I laughed, it was a good day!

Developing such an emotional attachment to an inanimate object or a particular company’s product is weird to me. Apple is the same way. Tesla gets high customer satisfaction ratings despite the fact it’s consistently rated as one of the least reliable cars made. I view it as a customer base principally made up of followers vs. Independent thinkers.

Toyota fan boys have always been like this. True there was a day LONG ago where their trucks were much better than most others but that day has past. Now they just can't handle the fact that the 3rd Gen Tacoma was the worst drivetrain Toyota produced. I owned one and know first hand how bad they are but if you go on TW they will never admit this. Sure some have but they get crucified for it.

Then when the Ranger came out they bashed it to no end especially the 4cyl turbo. Cant wait to see what all these fan boys are going to say when the next Gen Tacoma comes out and it has......A 4cyl turbo!

I had a '93 pre taco pickup. That was back when I was sort of a foreign car snob after swearing I'd never own american. I wouldn't say I was a fanboi, but I had a hard bias due to the crap american cars of the 70s and 80s. At least in my view.

When I was ready to buy another truck and read a lot, and never even drove a tacoma, or anything else for that matter.

I always get told Toyota's are most reliable and go to 1 million miles blah blah blah. except there isn't any toyota's over 250k miles for sale near me. I just always assumed toyota owners perpetuated the lie so they could get more money for their used vehicle.

On a different side of the fence, it seems like Jeep owners are a lot nicer. Heck even the ones that tip over. Maybe I just haven't hit the right crowd yet, haha.
