@DirkM
Was reinstalling my charging pad and decided to tidy things up a bit using double sided tape to capture the module and take any stress off the point where the cable leaves the charging pad. In your efforts of continuous improvement you might look at adding a retention clip. Butpe also works!

Somehow I missed this post and I think it's a good idea. However, with the current all one design for smaller and larger phones supported by the same bracket, there is really no good spot to put a clip somewhere. There should not much stress on the wire either because it's only about an inch open space between the bracket and the console.

No worries Dirk - double sided tape did the trick.

Today I ran the USB-C cable from the upper tray down to the my adapter in the hidden 12V socket:

I fished my automotive-felt-covered USB-C cable into the dash from the upper left area. The connector of my charging coil is actually at the lower left, but the route is better from the upper left. The excess cable will get coiled underneath anyway, so it's good this way.

I like the idea. I have to ask. on the top tray has there been any thermal issues with the phone up there in the sun and charging? I know in my RS with the EU market wireless charging cubby on longer drives with the phone (Pixel 4 XL) in there and running AAWireless it will get hot enough to disable charging. On long drives I just plug the phone into an Anker 12V-USB charger instead of wireless and have the phone in a more open area for better air flow. I've been thinking about tapping in to the center/right air vent with a hose and adding airflow into the charging cubby on my car.

Honestly I've only charged my phone up there a couple of times and the vehicle was cool at the time. It was more of a project I did just because I could (I had extra parts lying around). My phone slid around while up there and the lower cubby was just more convenient so I always use that instead.

Good morning all, I have @DirkM solution which looks great and is clean. When plugged into the USB’s below the charger will cycle through charging the phone. Has anyone else experienced this? To check the wireless charger, I plugged it into the 12V and it seemed to work without issue. Would love to use the USB outlets as this is a clean solution. Thank you in advance.

Edit: For reference I have an IPhone 12

I honestly don't understand what you're asking.

When I plug the wireless charging pad into the USBs the charger will just constantly cycle on and off and effectively not charge the phone. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is there an issue with my USB.

I do not think the USB ports in the front center console output the required amperage to drive the wireless charger. Need to use a 12V-USB that provides more power.

Yes, probably this. The built-in USB ports are fairly low power.

The factory USB ports certainly don't have the juice for fast charging but I haven't seen anyone say they had a cycle on/off issue. It should constantly charge at slow charge. You could get another phone to try on there and see if it still happens (for reference, my Galaxy S10 charged just fine continously at slow charge). I did however wire in a separate power supply to get fast charging. You can refer back to post #102, although the particular Drok one I used is not available at the moment.

Also check the positioning of your iPhone on the wireless pad.

My iPhone is absolutely anal about where I place it on the charging pad.

If I'm off just a tiny amount it will do the on and off charging cycle constantly.

It will say it's charging then just a few seconds later "DING! I'm charging again!"

No wonder Apple did the mag chargers for the newer phones.

If the phone is less than 80% charged and if the wireless CarPlay/AA adapter is also used then I have seen the wireless charging pad and CP/AA adapter intermittently rebooting. The power draw is just to much for the Sync 3.

The wireless charging pad supports up to 15W (3A at 5V) with compatible phones, iPhones can still charge up to 7.5W (1.5A at 5V). Both is well above USB 2.0 (0.5A at 5V) or USB 3.0 (0.9A at 5V) specs.

If the phone is almost full and idle, it may only charge with a few Watts, low enough for the Sync 3 to maintain the charge and power the CP/AA adapter also. But if you are playing music while displaying Google Maps Satellite view and connected to the wireless CP/AA adapter, that's most of the time too much for the Sync 3.
