does anyone make a ditch light that's more aerodynamic that a Rubik's Cube?
is there a reason why they are always mounted where they are?

Rigid makes one that's rounded and personally I think they look a lot better than the square lights.

They're usually mounted on there so you can see off/out further when off roading at night. You want to ge the light up over your hood without reflecting off the hood back at you.

I totally get the whole ditch light thing - I’ve never off-roaded at night but I can see how these would save your butt if you ever got caught out there late in the day or were delayed for any reason like @dondonbabyraptor was a few days back.

Totally different situation but similar context - I was in PHX on business once and headed to South Mountain Parks for a quick mountain bike ride - always travelled with my MTB - parked at the end of E Pima Canyon Rd and headed up to the top - forgot how early the sun sets there and messed up on day light saving time - got to the summit and suddenly, it was pitch black - what the what - no lights - no way I’m riding back down the trail in the dark - had to take the road out and ghost behind a car all the way down the switchbacks to S Central Ave. It added 15 miles to my ride - on the sidewalk along Baseline because I had no lights. Ugh!

So, yeah, lights - lots of lights - like @Msfitoy kind of lights!

Great story Duke. Sometimes we just get caught off guard and things don't go according to plan, that's for sure. Can't imagine riding down the mountain in the dark, terrifying.

Fortunately, my area wasn't too treacherous and the Lariat headlights, high beams and fogs were plenty enough. Recently saw someone driving on the city streets with their flood bar on... Mall crawlers itch when they don't actually off-road huh

Does anyone here know if I can change the 5A fuse on the AUX 4 of the upfitter switch to a 10A??
Not electrician but I do HVAC work, and get about 1 years worth of electrical schooling, so let me encourage you not to change out a fuse for a higher one.

If the wires are sized to the fuse as indicated, then you run the risk of overheating that wire, and catching ?. Just in case you wanted to check those wires, get the gauge size, and the type of wire, it may be written on the insulation, something like, THHN-8gcu.
I don’t know how automotive works their wiring. You may find this info on a schematic.
Once you find this info, compare it to a wire gauge chart from a manufacturer of wire. Many of these are found on the net.

Ford may have decided to keep all the wires the same size.
If they did, then one would ask why not make all the fuses the same size? Glad you asked, simply I wouldn’t know, but let me give us something to think about.

If they did this, “if” I would be asking myself what is the total load design by fords rated fuses. That may be the number you don’t want to exceed. “If”, then we wouldn’t have to worry about any one particular fuse but our total load. Then making it sketchy, because now you’d be relying on your own cognitives not make a mistake by turning on too many. “Wait, was that, number 2 or 5 that could not be turned on with, was it, 3 or 1? Make sure you have fire extinguisher near by, I can see where this could get exciting.

Best to speak with an auto electrical engineer.

They are 100% not the same size.

I recently installed two Baja Designs squadron pros to aux 3 and it powers them no problem. That spec sheet doesn't say AMPs but you can use a volt to AMP calculator to find how many amps your putting out. You need to find the wattage but once you know how much 2 draw you can find out if it can go to one or needs 2. AUX 1 and 2 possibly 3 should be powerful enough

Diode Dynamics told me a pair can be wired together on any of the factory switches on the Tremor without issue. Remember not to order the wiring from them because it has an integrated switch built in; just buy your own from a hardware or automotive store.

I wired my SS3 Pros up to output #4. The draw is rated at 5.4 amps total. I figured I would rather run it on the 10 amp circuit rather than need to change it later. Not sure if/when I would have a need for a 25 amp or 15 amp output.

That's the harness I used. I cut off the fuse/relay and switch. All I needed was a + and - wire.

Ran the wiring from each light down the back on the cowl. Then ran it towards the battery - negative goes to the top post and positive to the relay/switch you want to use. Mine's "temporary" - I'm going to go back and solder the joints soon.

Hi,

I'm about to install some ditch lights as well on my tremor and was wondering what you did to the switch that came with the lights.

You said you cut if off, but then did you just taped the wires together?

Thank you very much

Cut the hard end of the wire cover off then I tied them together with a low heat solder butt connector. You can use regular butt connectors and tape too.

noob question... can you tie both LED Pods Hot wires together and into one end of the butt connector and the pre rigged hot from the fuse box into the other end?
So one switch wire to 2 lights essentially?
