There were no fireworks near us for the 4th (we didn’t want to get to the ones in Tucson) so we drove to Tombstone, AZ for the day which is about 90 minutes away. We’ve been there before but that was 8 years ago and it's an old western town where they still have dirt roads and have mock up shootouts at the OK Corral. They had the town all done up for the 250th celebration and had a Twilight Parade from 7-8 pm with the fireworks right after. Met a lot of great Patriotic people there and a really nice couple from Long Island, NY who we hung out with at the fireworks.
I took the backroads there because it's a nicer drive through an area that's still hasn't been built up with sprawl and is pretty desolate with a few horse ranches.
Tombstone is a very small town (pop. 1,400) and has one street (Allen St) still a dirt road and mocked up of what it looked like before the huge fire in 1882 which occurred on May 25, devastated much of the town's business district, destroying over 100 buildings.
They has a small parade from 7-8pm with a police escort which everyone was cheering and nice to see.
Fireworks were from 8:15 - 8:45 which were longer and better than the ones at the casino.
