What did you do to your Ranger today?

I would imagine you could drive it far enough to get the damaged tire repaired or replaced in most suburban or even rural areas. It would seem sketchy to me and 50 MPH for any distance could get old real fast. It is probably no where near the capacity of the real wheels.

A couple of years ago, I took a 1000+ mile trip through Navajo Nation in northern AZ to Monument Valley, Canyon De Chelly, 4 Corners, etc. and there was no Verizon cell service and very few places to get anything fixed. Made me glad I had a real spare, compressor and a box of tools. Murphy can be evil. I would rather be over prepared than under.

It's such a highly traveled road and you'd think by now they'd have put a couple towers out there. There's no way I'll travel that strip at night now.

It's such a highly traveled road and you'd think by now they'd have put a couple towers out there. There's no way I'll travel that strip at night now.

I think there is only Cellular One in that area. We were in the process of selling our house in Phoenix at the time. We had to pull up close to motel rooms, connect to their open wifi and check text messages from our realtor and reply as needed. At least the Ranger got over 27 MPH for the trip.

Well, I've had a 255/75/17 spare on a sport wheel for 20.000 miles...maybe I need a tie down strap on there!

Changed the front lift on the ranger today. Installed a 2 1/2 spacer lift and reset the bilstein 5100's to the .6 in lift position. Got 3" lift total and a way smoother ride. When you crowd the springs with the 2.5 setting on the bilstien's they get harsh. My ride is nice and smooth again. With an awesome stance.

Rear right tire blew on highway in a rain storm. Original Hankook ATMs at under 36k mi. Replaced with the full size spare on the side of the highway.
Was going from crawling in traffic to just barely accelerating and the tire pressure warning came up at 25PSI quickly plummeting. Ended up around 5 psi in a matter of minutes or less. Not sure what caused it. No notable road debris or anything. Just a slow ride in rainy day traffic before seemingly sudden failure.

Managed to have some help with the right tools come by as I was working to get the spare out.

Now I’m trying to figure if I go for a full set replacement now. I had a The Works service about 1k miles ago and the tire wear was noted as “Good”.

Wow, that's a good blowout you'd think would've happened at high speed and not from crawling in traffic. But it's a blessing in disguise it happened that way!

What better time than now to upgrade and get a new full set and maybe go up one size. Heck, while you're at it might as well put on some new shocks and lift it a little more. lol

Will poke around and look at the tire more in the morning. I had a little bit to limp before I could get to an emergency pull-off. The speed at which I lost pressure seems to line up with a sudden failure. While pressure dropped quick and I could sense something wasn’t right, it did take another few minutes before the tire was audibly flat.

My original Hankook ATMs lasted about 13000 miles when I lost one to a wheel weight. They were 90% done so I replaced them with 5 Continental Terrain Contact AT's in 265/70x17 and a matching wheel for 5 tire rotations. Better in every way than the OEM tires.

Mine were shot at 36800 when I bought the truck. I eeked out one hunting season and winter then put the Toyo AT IIIs on at around 42000. The OEMs aren't high mile tires anyway. Just get a better set and don't look back. Check out Tire Rack and at least compare prices locally. My mechanic actually beat Tire Rack's price on my Toyos.

Mine have lasted 7 years and are like new.
