Supposedly, transmissions built after 2022 have the updated sleeve/bushing and some other changes.

Mine was just replaced last week with a different transmission with updated components at 59640 miles. Shifts better than it ever has, if only the dealer would have put the splash pads back on on both sides of the wheels wells instead of tossing them (now in a fight), all would have been good.
I had the same thing happen when I replaced the drive train in my 2005 Ranger by an independent shop. They took them off and didn't put them back on. Worse, they threw them away! Worse, they no longer make or stock them.

If I end up taking my 2020 in for transmission work, I think I'm going to remove the splash pads before I take it in. Then reinstall them myself.

You really have the golden unicorns down there. Not only do you have oil burners and manuals, you have good automatics too? Ford the American company hates us anymore, and loves you guys. Even had the Barra. If I were to move strictly for vehicle choice, I know where it would be.
Well sadly the 6 speed 6R80 is no more, along with the i5 3.2 diesel it was dropped for the 6G model, the choices are now the 2.0 bi turbo diesel (would be a good motor if it wasn't for the stupid wet cam belt design) the 2.0 with 1 turbo (for the 2WD poverty pak models) the 3.0 V6 diesel (the old Landrover / Range Rover motor rejigged - not a bad engine) or the 3.0 V6 turbo petrol in the Raptor, all with the 10R80 Auto. Which of course has the same issues as yours.
There are aftermarket kits available here to fit a Barra engine.....

Welp pretty much as I expected. Dropped the truck off yesterday to Downtown Ford here in Sacramento, who did the first rebuild in 2023 when it failed at 34K. They confirmed the hard shifting but oh so quickly let me know that warranty repair doesn't apply as it's out of warranty now (only 53K but over 5 years), and I'd need to call Ford customer service for any help.

Called Ford customer service who basically said they can't (won't) do anything about it, and I'd need to work with the dealer.

So a great big thankful F-you from Ford to me.

I just want to punch something hard right now.

What was the warranty period for their repair? Not the vehicle warranty.

Apparently 12K / 12 months...
All they’ve done is confirm harsh shift correct? Do you know if they did the CDF drum test that’s spelled out in the latest TSB? Your repair order from before shows they put the updated one in ( by part number) and that “shouldn’t “ be the issue but you never know. Also looking at your repair order it looks like they put your “old” but previously cleaned valve body back in. That could be where the issue is also. Maybe try what others in your situation have done with a fluid replacement and adding some Lubeguard to see if it clears up. I can see Ford not wanting to warranty something that the dealer may have screwed up. That should be the dealers responsibility. But with not knowing exactly what is going on inside it’s hard to place blame. Just some ideas for you.

Steve- thanks for the meaningful well measured response. I will bring these points up when I pick the truck up later today. Appreciate your input.

Ah damn, here it is. Bad memory on my part, I am remiss.

As I was gathering all of my paperwork prior to picking up the truck, I found my “first” work order (the one I posted earlier in this thread was the second). I forgot I’d actually gone to the dealer the first time for the hard shift issues (May of ’23), where they had it a few days then told me they fixed the issue. 30 seconds out of the parking lot driving home, truck was still hard shifting and I called them and said “nope, not fixed”, and had to bring it back June of ’23 where they did the rebuild I posted.

I will attach both work orders here (if anyone is interested). Valve body was replaced in first work order.

Picked up and they only went as far as road testing to confirm the hard shift, they wouldn't do anything else without charging me. I'm going to wait a bit and figure out how I want to proceed.

LubeGard Platinum and clean fluid will correct sticking solenoids in the valve body (which cause a lot of problems), but it won't correct a CDF sleeve that has slipped out of position.

From my personal experience, the 10R80 needs clean fluid, and the fluid dirties up pretty quick. I'm monitoring mine to see how far I can go between fluid changes. I am hoping to get 20K before needing to change the fluid again. I would really like to get 30K out of the fluid. Time will tell the tale!

Thanks. I will go that route as others have suggested, once I get this issue addressed. I did have it changed at 25K, and then of course at 34K with the rebuild.

Geesh, when I had the transmission rebuilt on my 2003 Mountaineer at about 110,000 miles, they gave me a 3 year warranty.
The difference is Ford knows that there is a very good chance that the 10R80 won't last 3 years or 36K. Mine barely made 12K miles.

A repair performed under warranty will have it's own warranty of 12m/12k. Had he paid for a transmission overhaul, the warranty would be 24m/unlimited miles. Had he paid for a Ford remanufactured transmission, that warranty lasts 36m/unlimited miles.
