I place my jack under the bottom of the shock and lifted it up enough to slide the bolt through...
stupid question... the boot part goes up right? fat part to the bottom?
I used my jack as well, and found it easiest to go boot down. I hand tightened the top bolt (closest to bed) and jacked the shock right on in to the lower mount. It popped in and was able to stay compressed without the bolt even in, so I had to use a screwdriver through the eyelit to manuever it into alignment with the holes so I could slide the bolt through. They are monotube shocks so it really doesn't matter which way they are oriented. Hope you get it sorted.

ok.. so you jacked it up to take the old ones off, put the new one in the top, and then let it down off jack/stands and then finished with it on the ground?
I didn't even jack it up to take the old ones out. I unbolted the bottom first and let them expand and swing down, then pulled the tops out. Jack was just to get the new ones in. Your springs will support the weight of the truck, no need to jack it up.

success! I got this big ass clamp and some hefty zip ties and got them all compressed. didnt even jack it up, popped them in. hardest part was getting the rubber boot back over the lip on the passenger side.

Certainly feels satisfying to get them in there after yesterdays struggles. I did not come up with the zip tie method.. found it from an old timer on youtube :)

I returned the clamp to home depot when i was done with it and got my $35 back.

Youtube is a DIY guys best friend. I've found out how to do many things searching it. I basically went to bicycle refurbishing school there. :)

Glad it all worked out Calvin ! When I had done mine a long time ago I was questioned about rear ride height as I measured before and after shock install and it raised it 1/4 inch. Poster didnt believe me. If your 200 plus pounds and cant get them to compress then its not so far fetched that it would provide a small amount of lift. Good luck you will enjoy them. Bret

Doing those rear shocks sure is a PITA! We were shocked (hahahaha) that they weren't shipped compressed! On one side, I compressed it by hand from under the truck (on a lift). It wore my ass out. For the other side, we used a bottle jack to compress the shock, and fought with it a bunch. LOL
