I just had a brand new transmission installed in my 2022 with 17800 miles on it this week. I was told it was new and questioned it and was reassured it wasn’t a reman. If it was a reman you would think it would be tagged as so. Others on here have purchased the new transmission out of warranty with the same part number. Maybe @LevittownFordParts.com can confirm for us?

Hi Steve,

I'm not saying its reman but based on the part # off the Repair Order its a warranty spec unit, See below

Ford is odd in that many parts have a warranty spec version, Even brake parts (rotors, calipers).

If a customer asks me for a part we always provide them with the retail spec version. Internally I honestly do not know what the differences may be.

I would rather think we are getting new units. My 19 Ranger is still on original @ 65K. I have extended warranty to 125K. and don't plan on keeping it beyond that. Ford would have to plan ahead though and have X number of new units waiting for failures. When I use to work we only built to order, never had new lying around, as the year carries over you pay taxes on inventory that carries over, In aerospace manufacturing that is.

My gut is that it’s new. Looks new and not reman. I’ve also been around the diesel heavy equipment industry for decades. Some manufacturers are really good at presenting a quality looking reman unit. But this looks new in every aspect. I’m guessing it’s cheaper for Ford to build a batch of new units than to have units remanufactured. Long term these cores may end up moving into a warranty replacement unit if the trend continues.
In the diesel engine and component industry cores piled up and you would rebuild units as the demand required.
As an example my last employer before retiring had multiple locations. Between all the locations I would say that they had multiple semi trailers full of just turbocharger cores. And those were ones that had current or potential future demand.

Hello
Being in manufacturing for 40 years my take is remanufactured, really is cheaper that way, doesn’t mean this is what’s taking place only what I have seen. I have searched with multiple different search string and I cannot find an answer either way! Only thing that keeps coming up is the tranny’s troubles.
We’ll see eventually, nice to run it back and forth with you. I like the input

I’ve been having transmission issues with the Ranger for a while. Cold start and the truck feels like it goes into neutral for a few seconds then hard shifts. Feels like a sledgehammer hitting the transmission. Even when the transmission is at temp, it hard shifts with start and stop traffic.

I had the truck at the dealership for the past week and the tested it and did a reset of the adaptive learning tables. I just drove it and it’s hard shifting less than a mile from the dealership.

The good news is the service manager and the warranty manager are pushing Ford to speed up the process and get a new transmission. They said from their experience with the 10R80, Ford likes to replace the transmission when it’s under 30k miles. I hope that’s the case but I haven’t read anything about that.

Also they are replacing the hvac blower. It’s very loud at max output and the blower is shaking and rattling.
14,000 MILES OVERHAULED VALVE BODY, EXCESSIVE METAL CONTAMINATION, RESET ADAPTIVE LEARNING.. This will happen again... I will be watching it.

not to hijack this thread but want some advise....(Advise needed quickly as to help calm my anxiety.....please don't judge....thanks!!)

ok, I had some trouble with my tranny recently and the dealership just replaced the valve body under warranty....

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/thre...es-being-repaired-under-warranty-today.29808/

It still shifts weird....hard shifts between the lower gears and cold morning shifting (first 5 minutes of driving) is a joke.......so I'm very nervous now that I'm going end up stranded somewhere out in BFE or it's going break down at the worst time......

It only has 31,632 miles so it's still under warranty and I do have the 6 year extended warranty through Flood Ford, HOWEVER, it has the Ford Performance Tune and I'm sure the dealer could weasel out on replacing the tranny under warranty if they really wanted to....

It seems like the new trans is relatively reasonably priced ($2,458.65 through @LevittownFordParts.com ). https://parts.levittownfordparts.com/oem-parts/ford-transmission-kb3z7000b .....can't I just have my trusted mechanic put in this new trans to calm my nerves?!....or even pay the dealer to do it?......how much can the labor be to swap it out on my dime? will this solve my problems or is it a design issue and will fail anyway?.....I'm asking just to avoid what seems like the inevitable....another trans issue.....and my anxiety is starting to kick into overdrive (no pun intended) with this issue.....

ORRRRRRR......do I just trade it in on a Ranger Raptor?!!....does the new Ranger Raptor have the exact same trans or is it something different/better??

thanks for your help/advice!!

That's a tough call and a decision only you can really make because everyone's situation (and stress level) is different. Have you seen this post by @ctechbob and his advice and possible solution on adding LubeGard Platinum? Honestly I'd go this route first and see if that solves your problems.

But if it's going to make you crazy all the time worrying about it breaking down I'd dump it and get the Raptor. The Raptor has the 10R60 transmission and I don't recall (but I haven't kept up on them) the Broncos having all these issues as our Rangers and they have the 10R60.

thanks for the advise!...LOVE my Tremor!....just not the trans....and don't need a Ranger Raptor or the payments......as I use my truck for work.......I would just swap out the trans for a new one if I was 10000% sure it would solve the issue....

10 oz bottle of LubeGard Platinum cured my severely misbehaving transmission. And it was getting scary bad. 1500 miles since and not even a hint of a problem.

Sounds like you’ve had the second step of the TSB 24-2101 done ( valve body replacement). If you’re still having problems bring it back in. The third step is the CDF drum repair or transmission replacement . All covered under warranty ( 5 years/60000 miles). Don’t wait and don’t spend your own money.

Did you just add to your existing transmission fluid or did you change that also?

Personal opinion, no expert. If you have the money to pay for another tranny I would first look into programming. You just had the valve body replaced, that has a warranty unto itself. Sounds to me it either an issue with the new valve body or software issues. You’re also running a tune, I have read posts on this board of issues and there seems many times I see a tune included. Have you tried returning to factory condition? Also, before I would put another transmission in look for a shop that has a good reputation and or builds for racing or off roading. I’ve been around builders a good one can build a better transmission than one you could buy off the shelf. Transmissions are Fords weak points, always have been. I’ve been buying new Fords since the 90’s, have always liked them.
Believe me I understand your panic, don’t do the parts cannon approach. Honestly the price you quoted for another tranny sounds too low in my opinion. I paid more than that for a tranny exchange on a Windstar in the late 90’s!
Good luck brother

It looks like I am about to join the bad transmission group @ 104K miles. The shifts have been getting harder and harder. I was driving this weekend and had the cruise set at 84 mph. I accelerated to pass a slow-driving left laner and it felt like someone smacked the trans with a sledgehammer. It did this multiple times.
I can also feel and see the truck vibrating when sitting and idling. I don't think this is related but I noticed it this is new too.
My question is for those who replaced the transmission, what are your thoughts? Does it drive and pull the same? Is it better to ditch it before the trans dies? I would really like to hear your thoughts.
