I have used the same method described with xacto knives or if you don't want to burn anything you could go around it with a small sharp wood chisel until it pops out, then clean up the edge with a razor knife.

I personally used the "Open my wallet and buy factory equipped tow package truck" method, so I'm just going by what I've done to cut similar things in the last.

Ok, stupid question here, my Supercrew sport came with a 4 pin trailer wire attached on the bottom left center Ill call it under the rear bumper. I just ordered the curt hitch, if I order the 4 to 7 pin adapter to i remove the factory 4 pin all together or does the new harness plug into the 4 pin and snake around to the cut out hole for the 7 pin adapter? Any help is appreciated. New to the forum. Thanks!

the 4 and 7 pin sockets are both on pigtails that plug into another connector. you'd pull out the 4 pin pigtail and replace it with the 7 pin.

This is awesome! I've been looking at a couple of Rangers and have been frustrated that a handful have everything I want EXCEPT the tow package. I decided to buy the hitch myself but wasn't happy about the wiring harness kits out there. Having the OEM stuff available at a reasonable price makes me much happier. Now to get the truck at the price I want. :) Hopefully in the next week I will be driving one home.

Is the wiring harness part easy to install? Do you have to swap out an existing harness or does this just plug in and add the trailer lighting capability. The truck I'm looking at buying already has the parking sensors but no trailer package. The parts schematics on the Ford parts websites are very vague. The drawings down't have the parking sensors but the photos look like they do.

Yes it is a swap out. And yes KB3Z-15K868-D is the correct part number for the wiring harness. It is an unplug and a plug in.

Are you buying an XL, XLT or Lariat? If you are getting an XL without tow package you will need to be prepared for the added steps to add a trailer brake controller if you are intending to do any serious towing down the line. Some of us learned that the hard way :p

It replaces an existing harness. It’s not hard just tight spaces.

I didn't realize that the truck already has a 4 pin connector. So for now all I need is the hitch. My boat trailer is a 4 pin so I'm good!

FU5Z-14489-A was in stock at the dealer but wire harness KB3Z-15K868-D has been on back ordered. At least at the few dealers i have asked to order it for me. Been told to try back in June.

So, after trying dealers ordered it through https://parts.ford.com/en.html received it to day.
recommend selecting a few different dealers to get the best price.

Want to get the new harness installed before adding a Curt hitch.
