When you go to ‘about Sync’ does it show the modem serial number or is it blank? If it is blank then the modem is not working And is either bad or in a confused state. Some have had luck waking up the modem by pulling the appropriate fuse(s) or disconnecting the battery for a short time to get the hardware to reset.
I just went out to check and sure enough…it is blank.
many idea WHICH fuse? I pulled 13, 15, and 32 inside. Nothing. I disconnected the battery yesterday for a little over 10 minutes.

I found it. It is fuse 9 marked for telematics. Pulled and cleaned it. Reinserted and BOOM. Now it sees the modem. Go back to FordPass Communications and BOOM. Fixed.
Thank you.

About connectivity. I had the same spinning ball. And Ford Pass would not activate. I removed the vehicle from Ford pass and added it back. This time it activated and it turned on more connectivity choices (Location services for one) that were not present before. It takes a bit for stuff to sync up....at first the app did not recognize location services as being on but the icon on the vehicle display shows it was.
Ford Pass is now up and working again but the owners site still thinks it needs a sync update -- and checking for SW updates still results in a never ending beach ball. But progress.....
I think I'm finally done with Sync and map updates. I ended up doing a soft reset and reloading Sync 3.4.23188 via USB. It only took 15-20 minutes and when it was done it did write an XML file. I uploaded that to Ford and it immediately updated my vehicle sync version. And when I checked for any updates in the vehicle the process completed quickly showing it was up to date.

Good luck to everyone....it sure seems hit and miss....

Looks more and more like it just depends on who happened to be programming the modules on the day it was built.
I remember this became a topic in 2020 (?) when owners were making updates via Forscan. I never realized that my 2019 Lariat was missing the heated seat icons until then. Tried to get the dealer to acknowledge they should be there, but to no avail. So I corrected it myself. For those that have newer Rangers, there's a lot of information in that older Forscan thread.

Take that back, I will not be doing a map update for those prices! I did one not that many months ago for FREE so I'll be satisfied now for that. Ridiculous to me that Ford charges that kind of money
(or charges at all) for a map update.
If the map updates were still free, I'd gladly update - just because. But I always use navigation via CarPlay - Google and Apple keep their maps updated for FREE.

Hit or miss, yup!
I've really never had a problem with my 2019 Ranger.
This time, the USB update never finished, after 1 1/2 hours - I gave up!
I tried downloading/new USB and the truck wouldn't recognize it.
So, from reading here, I went to Cyanlabs and made a new USB
I pluged it in, and within 5 sec all was well!
(Well, there was no xml file, so the Ford site isn't happy)
I don't know why or what, and I don't really care.
I just wanted to thank you folks for helping.
Regards,
Joe

Glad you got it worked out. It sucks to invest 90 minutes and then give up -- I know bc I've been there done that. This time I left the USB in for awhile after the message appeared that said it was okay to remove. Maybe that's why the xml file was there bc it has not been in the past.

It also doesn't help when the Ford Instructions for the Map Update using a Mac are wrong. Arrrgh

Downloaded it tonight and installed in 10 min. Everything was good and for the first time in the last three updates the Ford sight actually took the xml file and showed it updated on the web site.?

the last 2 from Cyan Labs 088 updated the ford site by the time I got home, the 188 I did a hard reset after I checked and it also updated without XML

For what it's worth!

I also was stuck on the very broken Sync 3.4 22251. So bad I couldnt even do a master reset, it would just freeze and crash.

I used the Cyanlabs tool to clear the rwdata and free up some space.
Was able to do a master reset.
Then used the Cyanlabs Sync3updater to update to to 23188.
Kept the same '21 maps I already had, but looks like i have the option to put '22 maps in there if I want.
Has been working well ever since luckily.

I just updated the maps using the Ford factory usb. Took 2hrs and 12 minutes. Not a good use of my$$$. Did not read the fine print when I paid for it last year. Thought it was a one time fee.

My 2019 Ranger Sync version is at 3.4.21294 (no nav) and am thinking about updating to 23188 since it’s at such an old version and I have had some sporadic issues.

One of my concerns with updating is with the climate control screen and heated seat icons disappearing from the home screen of the touchscreen. I remember this was a big issue with a previous version back in 2020 (I think 20136) for some 2019 Ranger non-NAV configurations.

Does anyone with a 2019 Ranger that updated to 23188 still have all climate control features and/or heated seat icons on the home screen of the touchscreen?

Even if you lose the seat icons , you can reinstate the icons with Forscan.
My 22, did not have them from factory, but I enabled them with Forscan.

I have a 2019 XLT and I have been running build 23188 for some time now. I did not lose my seat icons or any other features. I also did not experience any of the other features others have reported. Mine stays in night mode, keeps my splash screw and other display settings. It does randomly start up on an FM station instead of my USB stick. I don't have NAV and don't use XM. Oh, I updated using Cyanlabs.
