Does any one know if Ford still does updates to Sync 3? SYNC 3.4.23188 seems to be the last update and been a while since one has been pushed out.

That's what mines been on for over a year now. I'm guessing that that's it for updates for Sync 3 unless something gets corrupted and they need to push another one.

It took Ford a number of updates to finally come up with one that works well and is stable. I doubt that any more updates for Sync 3 will be coming.

According to Ford Sync 3 is still an active system. My question would be with all the phones and apps changing and updating that there would be bug fixes at least once a year. But from the sounds of it, guess not. I just know on Sync 2 MFT they were updating it at least once a year till they did the EOL on it when they went to Sync 3 and got away from Microsoft.

You have to keep in mind that Ford is only concerned about internal operations of the Sync system, it’s up to the carriers to be backwards compatible.
Up until the last vs 23188 there were numerous system issues and you will note that the latest recall - ensures the system is updated to vs 23188. They appear to finally have the system to where it should have been (day one)
Any other updates will be minor.

FYI: I returned from running the "full" update of Sync OS and Maps. I was on 3.4.23188 and maps NA 2 20.

Now still on 3.4.23188 and maps NA 2 25 (or 24, did not take a photo of the version screen this time... will soon to be sure).

Took about an hour for it all to update... can't turn the Ranger off during the update or it starts from the beginning again.... nice day for a drive though...

It will be NA 2.24; they are always 1 year behind.
Just updated mine - 40 Minutes & 2 System Reboots with (Restart Engine) messages.

The KEY is to not get confused by the message (Update Complete - as that is for that STEP in the update process- It's not finished until you see this message.

You don't have to run your engine to do the updates. You can put a 10 amp charger on the battery and put the truck in accessary mode. Go in the dash menus and turn off auto stop (not to be confused with auto start-stop) so the accessary mode doesn't time out. You will be able to do the updates without running the engine.

Ahhh, that is good to know! Thanks.

I presume the latest update still means the built in apps dont work still? I dont have any issues with it though and I know there are no over the air updates on mine. Unless there is something else I should look for.

I was just thinking about getting a map update but think I will wait a little while since they keep building in my area. Even google maps shows I am off roading while on a paved road sometimes.

The trick for me was to get the AAwireless2 android auto. That thing has been a game changer. On sale today on Amazon I see for $50. I can go on and on about it.

Although true - you still have to cycle the key off, to allow the system reboots it requires, so it’s still required interaction to complete, so yes you are saving fuel but not time.

So it's not just rebooting Sync, which it did while I was still driving without interaction with me. When turn off auto stop (not to be confused with auto start-stop) is done, that is just for Sync and not the rest of the "stuff" that turns on when I press the Start/Stop without stepping on the brake pedal??

Ok I was idling with engine running during my Map update, 2x I received a message on the screen system rebooting, and then after reboot a message was displayed to cycle ignition off and restart - (exact wording?) to continue with update.
I wish I would have snapped a pic of the message.
Note: The engine never auto shutdown, I interacted and manually performed the action.

Sync is looking for a complete power drop at those points.
So even with engine not running and using a (charger) you will still need to cycle the key.
This is my 4th map update, I recall all of them being the same - cycle

Edit: I think the wording is "Key Cycle Required"
