SSM 49012 - 2020 Ranger - Transmission Selector Lever Backlighting Deleted - Built On And After 11-Jul-2020I’m not sure the actual day of production, but mine says 07/20 on the sticker in door jamb. Mine also has the Lariat package 500a.
Was there a document posted anywhere explaining this change?

This is how mine is.20 Lariat 501A, mine is illuminated, but it does not actually indicate what position the shifter is in. This bothered me at first, but I've gotten used to looking at the dash instead.
I'm confused more than usual. my truck built 9/19 already had the "delete"? it's silly to NOT have the selector light up AND NOT show what gear. I guess my old POS frontier won 1 fightRunning change, shifter backlight was deleted on 7/11/20 builds & later.
It looks like you have an XL - my guess is that it was only on the XLT and Lariat - at least before it was removed in July.I'm confused more than usual. my truck built 9/19 already had the "delete"? it's silly to NOT have the selector light up AND NOT show what gear. careful, some people on this forum get really butthurt and blame the customer if you suggest that the dealers make stuff up when they don't know the right answer!Didn't have that package? What?? the special "light up the PRNDS" package? Ridiculous...The stuff dealers say sometimes when they don't know the actual answer.
KJ I would rather have the folding rear seat headrest the the lighted display since it is right in front of youNever really noticed if mine lights up or not, 2019 XLT.
So who is going to open it up and see if the wiring and socket are there and just the bulb is missing? Like the foldable backseat headrests that were missing the button?
Hi John,Confirmed! My 2020 XLT FX4 purchased in mid Sep 2020 has no backlight next to the shifter. This is my first Ford purchase, and the various deletes to save money is disappointing. I also own a Subaru and a Mazda, and they don’t do things like this (based on my experience.)
the ring around ignition, taking away 2 tie downs, no light in gear selector. just 3 off the top of my head ... damper... 4That is one reason I bought a 2019 Ranger...no cost reductions.
