On the stock wheel and suspension height, 265/70/17 is about the biggest tire you can safely use without issues (Tremor runs this without issue). If you are looking for winter tires, consider function over form. Maybe go with the beef for summer (that’s what she said!).

Maybe the look you want has more to do with the tire design. You had a great off-road/all terrain tire on your last truck. That tire also had an aggressive sidewall. Questionable how much function that adds, but it looks nice. I attached a couple of the common tires that have a similar side profile and are available in the size you already have. The KO2 seem to have the most aggressive look, then the Toyo, and so on…. The more aggressive the look and the tread, the louder the tire tends to be - so prepare for that as well. You are also going to need to choose if you want white lettering (showing) or not. This depends on the tire and the vehicle, and YOUR preference. For me, I am split 50/50. Maintaining white lettering is more work, so I opt for the black side out look.

If you level the front, it seems as though you can go to a slightly bigger tire (wider and/or taller) with maybe only needing a spacer.

I just recently purchased a 2022 lariat and have begun the process of adding many of the deleted features and some of my own add ons as well (pictures to follow soon) I have the 17 inch rims and want to put “beefier” tires on. Both to survive the upcoming Colorado winter, and for the aesthetics. The only problem is I have no idea what “beefier means” I downsized from a ram with 265/65/20s and had bf Goodrich ko2s and loved the look. How do I replicate that look/ what tire size can I put on without needing modifications? (it will be leveled shortly). The stock ones are 265 65 17 and are just very little looking. Thanks in advance for any help and knowledge! I have greatly enjoyed learning so much more about my truck from you guys on this site, granted it’s a 2022 lariat so it’s been slightly disappointing when I got to the deleted list thread lol.
285/70’s just look right on these trucks. I’m on Fox 2.0 kit with the front coils backed off to give me around 1.75” lift up front. Duratrac’s are my go to tire, they are awesome in the winter and handle fire roads and highway just as well

Here is 265/70/17 on 17x9 tires. Raining today so you'll have to look through the raindrops to see it.

Mine is slightly lifted (Bilsteins in front at 1.8", Tremor leafs in the rear) but a lift is not necessary to run this size.

IMO, the 265/70 looks "Just Right" on a stock or mild truck.

With that said, when these wear out I'll likely install the modified intrusion beams and go with 285/70.

^^^^^This, right here……all day long. After you level it and continue to use your OEM rims with their +55mm offset, you’ll be able to get this great look without having to modify anything and your speedometer won’t be WAY off.

”Bigger” has its limits. This is a very popular tire size for a levelled Ranger because it looks so great.

I'm a Canadian resident who just purchased a 2019 Ranger. It had the factory tires on it, worn out, and I too was looking for a beefy tire that could handle both Summer off roading and Winter icy roads.
There is no such thing as an all-season tire or a Winter tire . (Those are marketing terms, used to sell tires to people who don't care). There's Summer tires, snow tires, and ice tires. Snow tires will have wide gaps between the lugs, ice tires will have the narrow little grooves in the lugs, called Sipes, for traction on ice. The ko2"s have have very few of them and imho are useless for winter driving. Even living in Canada, I drive in very little snow. I drive on recently plowed roads that have 1/2 inch of compacted snow on them that has turned into ice.
The only tire I found on the market that have beefy lugs that can handle Summer offroading, (those lugs will benefit me the odd time I do drive in snow), and a good amount of ice sipes....is the Goodyear Duratrac.
And they have, I consider, to have coolest looking sidewalls on the market.

How did those affect your MPG and MPH reading?

I didn't notice much of a hit on MPG, but then my driving habits suck for MPG anyway.

As far as speedometer, at 70mph indicated on the dash the GPS shows around 72 true mph.

Personally I like the 265/60 R18's I got as standard(black appearance tires). just a hair bit bigger, They fill the height up, and still look like they fit.

Tires are measured in two ways:
  1. Metric
  2. Inches

Inches are easier 33x12.5x17 = 33" tall, 12.5" wide, 17" wheel.

Metric is a little more convoluted. 265/65r17 is 265mm wide, 65 is the sidewall height (which is a percentage of the first number = 265 x .65). and 17 is the wheel.

You can fit at 265/70r17 on the stock truck no problem. I had the KO2s in that size and they performed great.

285/70r17 KO2s will fit on the stock Ranger with only a *tiny little kiss* on the crash bar, in reverse and with the wheel cranked passenger all the way.

If you are going to level your truck, like you said (I have an Eibach Pro 2.0 kit for sale and I can even help you install it, if you're interested) then you can easily go 285/70r17. This is equivalent to a 33" height (though its technically 32.8).

I ran the Eibach Pro 2.0 kit and 255/80r17 tires (33.1") for about 8 months. I am stepping up to 285/75r17 (34" tires) this week.

I tell you all that to make this point: Decide what you want before you start modifying and buying parts. Especially tires. I am about to go to my 4th set in a year and a half and, while I have sold all my old tires, its been a pain.

What do you like to do with your truck? Are you interested in off roading? Do you just want to look cooler (nothing wrong with that)? These questions will dictate what you need. I off road a lot, so all my modifications have been geared around getting out and back. I've still learned a lot along the way and had to replace modifications that didn't work out exactly as I had planned.

Have you looked at the Nokian Outpost AT? Kal has them.

Popular tire sizes seem to be 255/80/17 and 285/70/17.
  • 285 would be roughly 1" wider than 255.
  • 255 would be roughly 0.5" taller than 285.

Looking at a TOYO ATIII as a comparable:
  1. 255/80 runs about $290 and weighs 53lbs. This size is only available in load range E1.
    • Listed height is 33.07"
  2. 285/70 runs $317 in load range C1 and weighs 56lbs.
    • Listed height is 32.76"
    • Personally, I would run a C1 load range in this size and not E1
