Here is a very quick and simple way to see tire width and height if listed as metric:
mm/in = 25.4 and tire size in question is 265-70-17
Width in metric for example 265: 265mm / 25.4 = 10.433" wide
Aspect ratio @ 70 for example: (10.433)(.70) = 7.303 which is height of the sidewall
Tire height: (7.303)(2) = 14.606 + 17 = 31.606" overall tire height with 17" rim
With a little practice, it can be done very quickly and when reading about different metric tire sizes, can calculate what the width and height are rapidly. Without having to try to dig up the tire specs which can sometimes be a pain.
