I describe the Maverick as generally 'not truck enough' for what I want, but I still consider it a truck... And a potentially viable option.

it’s the hipster man-bun “truck” class. Lol
Or the geriatric ladies truck…

Dude I’ve driven skidders on logging trails and just about every size vehicle out there, be it D9 cats and down, John Deer, Ford, IH etc… why such fanboy BS? No one is trying to emasculate you, it just a discussion whether my 67 YO wife would be comfortable driving a new Ford.. throwing stones does nothing… how young are you again? I’m thinking about 45 or less…

Man do we have nothing better to argue about than the definition of a truck? Look up the definition of a "pickup" it is defined as a "small TRUCK with an enclosed cab and a open back" could mean an F350 if you compare to a semi. To use the Australian terminology we should maybe call the Maverick/Santa Fe/Ridgeline UTES.

I do agree that a truck should be full body on frame, have a real transmission (not CVT), and be 2WD or 4WD (not AWD). Whether is truck or a pickup truck, who cares. It's not worth fighting about.

I've posted about this before, but here it is again. For my needs, even the f150 is too big. I love all the tech you can get on it, but it's just too big for me, not to mention to price of a loaded lariat is a small mortgage.

I want a 4x4. We're retiring to the mountains and AWD won't work for me on a 'truck'. I wanted a 6' bed, so bought a scab.

The maverick wouldn't necessarily be too small for me, if he had a scab and 5.5' bed, and 4x4. That's not the market they're going for, so a Mav won't work for me.

As for the entry and exit height, That's typically not something I worry about. I'm 5'11" so if I had issues getting in/out of something then there would likely be more problems than just that :)

Thanks for posting this. It really does make it clear that the differences between the Ranger and Maverick are not really that great, but those between the Ranger and the 150 are huge, making the latter way too big for my lifestyle, not to mention my garage! It seems reasonable that, with the Maverick holding down the small end, Ford engineers will be taking the Ranger up a bit in size, which is all right by me, as long as they keep it south of the 150 and bump the power up accordingly! The 150s will no doubt keep growing in size and power as well!

This thread makes my head hurt lol .. the maverick is just as much of a truck as a ranger is, just less capable and designed for a different market, just as the ranger is compared to F-150 and as F-150 is compared to super duty .. I think the maverick is going to fly of the lots once they get in production, first time car buyers and older couples can cross shop the maverick at the 20k starting price and nearly 40 mpg in the hybrid configuration

The trans in the Maverick Hybrid is not a CVT in this sense of using a of variable-width pulleys that are connected by a flexible belt.
From the Maverick forum:

" The hybrid trans is what's called an "eCVT", and it doesn't work exactly like your traditional belt-and-pulley CVT we all know and despise. Instead of cones and belts, the eCVT uses two electric motors, connected to the engine by planetary gears. The planetary gearsets allow the motors to rotate at differing speeds relative to each other and the engine, effectively giving you variable ratios. The fact that the wheels are powered by the electric motors means the Maverick hybrid should fall somewhere between an EV and a traditional gas car in terms of how it feels to drive."

Sure @canyonslicker it’s your lucky day at my dealership for my service check up. Took some pics for you. First pic is ranger clearance entering/exiting height compared to maverick. Much lower and I don’t have suspension mods, just one inch on tires.

How could they?

The Maverick isn't even close to release yet is it?

Automotive press should start getting ahold of them a few months before customers. So judging by recent Ford progress you'll see one in 2025.
On Reddit there have been pics of them loaded in trains heading out, and even a few already arrived at dealerships.

Yes, I've seen Brandon's posts.

Color me surprised.

Apparently Ford Mexico can handle a launch better than their US counterparts. Bronco Sport went pretty well too.

This video just popped up on my Youtube homepage. Shows the Maverick 0-60 time/speed along with towing. I didn't know there's no reverse gear, the electric motor goes in reverse. Ford puts a trailer brake controller in these from the factory and not our Rangers? :headbang: Would've liked to see him tow that Airstream shown at the end.
