How unfortunate. You'd think there was consistency across dealerships, but this and ridiculous ADM says that Ford has no control over the dealers. I guess I have a good one. Call for appointment on Tuesday, show up Wednesday 3:30, out the door by 4:15. But this is a large local dealer, not one of the mega chains. They have about 20 repair bays, with one or two dedicated to Quck Lane.

I've always wondered how they could call it Quik Lane, with having to schedule a simple oil change 1-2 months out, and then take 4+ hours to do it. I don't think I even want to know how long a repair would take.

I thought the Chevy dealer on the north side was bad, but our local Ford dealer is worse!

You’re going to hate me but just an example that there are some good dealerships out there. I booked last week for today at 10 am for Pa State Inspection / Emissions, Oil change and Tire Rotation. I walked in at 9:50, was promptly checked in, grabbed a coffee from them and then I walked over to Walmart for some miscellaneous stocking stuffers. Walked back into the dealership at 10:50, grabbed a water and sat down. 2 minutes later, the Service Advisor walked over to me to let me know I was done. I guess I have something to be thankful for. They’re a good bunch at my local dealer, I’ve been using them since 2009.

Dropped by Larry Miller Quick Lane in Phoenix earlier this year for my first oil change. No appointment. Friendly service writer, obviously swamped, walked outside with me, got my keys and said he would do his best. Pretty sure he had me out of there in under two hours.
Didn't read the "fine print" on my extended service plan. Do they actually require a "professional" business do the oil changes?

So really - these guys aren’t any more trained then the regular quick lube shops we all want to stay away from.
I have to say I haven’t had that bad of an experience so far with my escape or ranger. However having said that I think I am getting ripped off on “the works” for my ranger. Says the service is supposed to be a synthetic blend but they keep filling it up with regular oil - the only reason I know that is cause the parts # on the work order is regular oil. On the escape it list the synth blend # (for whatever reason for Canadians the manual recommends regular “premium” oil and south of the border it’s synth blend). I asked about it once and they said it costs extra for synth blend. Complete head scratcher to me.
@NoTacos
I thought mine was blend, I'll check & get back to you.

Was just in on Monday, 1 hrs for oil change.
I checked my oil, was full, you never know. I should mark the oil filter... lol

I sold a car almost immediately after a recall came out that entailed valve spring replacement because I knew what type of people would be working on the car at the dealer. Being a newer Subaru, the engine needed to come out and half apart to do the job. No thanks, I don't don't want to deal with the future problems from a tech rushing through the job.

I can do it, but I don't want to do it. I'll. Just buy a better car.
@yamahaSHO

That was a real joke. I'm part of the FT86 forum & I think the thread is over 200 pgs by now.
The thing with that was, if you had over 10k miles you were fine, as most blew before that.
Even after the fix , so many engines blew because they put too much gasket sealer
which would clog the oil passages.
I believe in some States you need to get it done or you can't renew the plate/registration?

Appreciate it. Maybe just the dealership I go to and the service writer doesn’t know. Maybe it automatically comes up on the work order as regular oil but it’s the synthetic blend they still put in cause the oil guys know it’s supposed to be blend for the works?

I too will keep doing mine for as long as I am able. Being retired I don't care how long I take to get it done, but wasting my time driving to dealer, waiting to get it done (hopefully with no issues) I like to sleep at night don't want to keep thinking about it, & then driving home. To me that's a waste of my retired time. I could be doing something more important like ? nothing. :like:

I can't wait until my next appointment to see if the magnets I put on the inner fender flap confuse the hell out of them.
I take it to the dealer every other oil change just for warranty purposes.

Phil, this is a great example of why I do my own oil changes. At this point, I'm not sure I'd ever trust a dealer to do any oil changes for me- too many horror stories.

I've been using my service dealership for close to 15 years. They've always been good to me.

I book oil changes out a week or two in advance. I'm not picky on the day but always go for one of the first appointments available right at opening time. Admittedly this works well for me working nights, but it also helps with timeliness.

If you have a noon appointment for an oil change, and the 5 cars in front of you had 5 min delays then you're now 25 minutes back as soon as you arrive.

This goes for all appointments, anywhere. If you've got a 3:30 pm appointment for anything it's going to be very rare that you see somebody right at 3:30. You've got a minimum of an hour wait due to people ducking around all day.

Also, I think it helps when you wait for your vehicle. By leaving it there it puts out the impression that you're in no rush.

I've never had an oil change that I had an appointment for take more than 1 hour.

I'm telling you folks. Make all your appointments for first thing in the morning. It'll change your life.

Hi Mike,

My plan does specifically state "professional oil change". How I can yank my motor, tear it apart, reassemble etc....No voiding of warranty...but oil change...VOID....

Best,
Phil

Let me Guess.... freedom Ford?!

I have heard about how the Warranty cant be honored if the maintenance isnt preformed by a trained professional..... Last i checked you are a trained professional Phil. I would tell them to pound sand. Unfortunately there really isnt another dealer that is close except in Lordsburg NM or Globe AZ. Both are about the same drive time if i remember correctly. Also i want to see in the contract where is claims they wont honor the Warranty... I'll be in the area Christmas Weekend
