Good morning,

I usually like to change my rear diff oil after 5K on my new trucks. After that I will go with what the service manual calls for.

Two quick questions, is this oil ok? I have a locking rear diff if that matters.

https://www.amsoil.com/p/severe-gear-80w-90-agl/#pills-home_0

Does this oil meet Ford's requirements as to not void my warranty?

Thank you!

Dude I've been using Walmart's Synthetic Diff Oil in street vehicles and zero issues. My Tahoe has had "store brand" differential oil since 20K, changed at 100K with Walmart, had O'Reilly before. 200K now.

Amsoil has to be fine if Walmart's is fine.

Curiously Ford specs conventional 80w-90 for the new Rangers while older trucks had synthetic from the factory. The only syn I've found so far that meets the Ford spec in the owner's manual is Redline 75w-90.

I have wondered if automakers ever sort of make an agreement on the recommended fluids etc. for new cars before they hit the market. sort of a kickback handshake both profit good ol boy deal lol. if i owned motor oil biz and say Ford offered to spec my oil for a "donation" or maybe a trade for the nice guy price for the oil going in at assembly, cutting fords cost, it would be a tempting deal knowing that a lot of future sales would come from my product being the recommended favorite.
