In the agricultural fields around here, the have small drainage ditches you would have to pass through from time to time- we had chevys and the first time through the front spoiler would break/rip off. They were mainly for fuel economy I believe, so we left them off.

Mine came off pretty quick. Ugly little things that serve next to no purpose that I can tell.

@P. A. Schilke

What problem during development did these solve? I'd gladly reinstall them if there is an actual purpose.

Hi Doug,

It is my understanding that during the stone pecking testing the amount of stone entrapment and abrasion did not meet program requirements and thus the stone guards were added to the FX4 as the bash plate did not protect parts of the suspension etc. If you drive on paved roads all the time you will likely be fine...Any gravel roads, Chip Seal paving etc might lend to reinstalling the shields.

Best,
Phil

I recently took the first picture and questioned why I haven’t taken off the plastic pieces. This thread inspired me. Took me 4 minutes. 3 bolts each. 2nd pic is with, third pic is without. Instagram@rangercrf

Not sure if this has been talked about before but is it common on here to remove the plastic trim under the bumper in front of the wheels? Is there any negative affect to this?

Mine had a very slight rub so I took them off then used my band saw to trim both along the 1st curve line and reinstalled both. No more rubbing.

Hi, I have a 4x4 not FX4, took off the air dam, and added the FX4 skid plate. Is there a bracket these stone shields attach to? I've purchased the shields but don't see where they attach. Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

Here is a side pix of the bracket that bolts to the frame and to the shield... sorry not clearer but I just do not have the flex in old age...

I got an XLT sport with the half skid plate and the air dam. I did a driveway swap with another member with a FX4 and full skid plate. The gravel guards are for FX4 as that was part of our swap. 10mm bolts (3) per side and a 5 mm bolt that snaps off the when you remover them. 2 tapped holes in frame for that mount point so just replace that fastener. I left mine off and just went with the skid plate. Hasn’t been a problem for me since we did it over a year ago.

I think their real purpose is to keep mud from building up on the crash bars. Salt and mud over time will degrade their strength. I keep mine clean but most won’t
