Does the redline replacement stay as pliable/soft as the oem shifter boot in cold weather?

I find in 20 degree F weather, the oem shifter boot is largely unaffected by the temp, but the oem brake handle boot is stiff enough that i have to push down on the lever with some pressure after pushing the release button to release the parking brake.

If the redline stays flexible like the shifter boot, then I'm ordering one for Christmas.
The redline one is real leather. Not bonded leather. Not some crappy glued-together bits of left over leather trimmings... it's the real deal. My truck has been parked overnight out in 20ÂşF temps this past month, and the boot has been perfect. I'm *very* happy with mine.

I don't know if you saw it, but I did a comprehensive install video for my replacement: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/how-to-upgrade-the-vinyl-parking-brake-boot-to-leather.20658/

Thank you for putting that video together and for sharing!! I just took a closer look at my oem boot and it has a hard crease where that crack will happen. I'm just going to go ahead and order a redline one to replace it.

My time is worth something. Dealing with getting the truck scheduled, dropped off at the dealership, then waiting who knows how long to get them to actually do the work, then go pick it all up again... it's not worth that hassle to me. Ordering the replacement from Redline and doing the install myself took a lot less of *my* time than dealing with Ford replacement, and I *know* the repair was performed correctly because I did it myself.

Why do I feel this way? Well, I've dropped my truck at the dealer (with an appointment time) to have them deal with other, larger issues and they let it sit in their lot for a full week before they even looked at it... and then they lied through their teeth about what work they actually performed. My dashcams don't lie, and I no longer trust my local dealer at all.
One - You're one of the unlucky ones with a dealer with poor service.
Two - I would not schedule any work that can't be done when I leave it for The Works oil change etc. If I have to leave it all day, they have plenty of time to take of extra things. And they are always done when they say they will be.

To each their own, of course. I do all my own oil changes and other general/scheduled maintenance. My truck has only been to the dealer to get a new battery under warranty, and to apply the TSB to my transmission programming. They were supposed to do other stuff during one of those visits, which they claimed to have done, but where clearly not done. I will only hassle with the dealer if something major happens under warranty that I don't have the tools or experience to deal with.

Yeah, for the relatively inexpensive price, it's not worth my time. I am not rotating my tires in the driveway either. But if my dealer was more than 15 minutes away and that I could not trust, might be a different story.

Your title; "Genuine PLeather" reminds me of the label on juice; "Made with real grape flavoring"

I should have my new redline boot by new years. I have tracking info and it is beginning its journey from Poland.

Mine has a tear right where the boot folds up when the parking brake is engaged but I might’ve missed this during the delivery (and wasn’t noted on the PDI). Guess I may be out of luck as the truck was delivered that way…

Service scheduled the first week in February. Had them order a second replacement as warranty is coming to an end. First one lasted about a year, but didn't have it replaced until last January. This one is shot after a year. Hoping for some improvement, but otherwise it's off to Poland for a real leather boot. Found a great deal on a FORD factory warranty extension but doubt that it would cover such things as fake leather parts.

Yes the Redline is very good quality, not going to crack.

Has anyone sent them the ford gear shift pleather to use as a template yet? If not and if someone can tell me how to remove it I'm willing to see if they still are willing to do it and send mine in.

Not too happy I have to spend $50 to upgrade the truck on a part that was defective from the date of delivery, just didn’t notice at the time of sale, but it is what it is..

Ford will replace it under warranty. Just hope that before your warranty expires they have come up with a better replacement, or bite the bullet and pay for a leather one.

I used clear gorilla glue
I've had my replacement boot I ordered for awhile now... haven't tried installing yet since the original boot still looks ok at almost 9,000 miles and truck will be 2 years old end of this month.

I did pick up a tube of Gorilla Glue Clear the other day. Reading the instructions where it says bonds instantly. I remember watching the video one of the forum members made of his boot replacement. Question, if this Gorilla Glue bonds instantly, asking those who have used it... were you able to move the replacement boot around to align on the plastic retainer once glue is applied?
