Luckily local dealer here sells at msrp without any add ons, etc, except for on the lot Bronco's... Luckily we got our Bronco as we were an early factory order at MSRP. Got my new 22 F150 at under MSRP also. As an aside... I overheard that they are not happy with the CEO making demands on them as dealers profit. *Capitalism at at it's best. Just because you can do something legally does not mean you should, I say.

And regarding all this, I still hope manufactures find a way in the US to direct sell to buyers at MSRP. We select the dealer for delivery, the dealer on those ordered is paid to perform a PDI and buyer just picks up the vehicle there. No dealing with the sales team, finance office, etc. Arrive at service where the vehicle's PDI was performed and pick it up.
No way I am ever paying MSRP... Just saying.

About two months ago the dealership I was at was turning and burning. Probably 12 sales desks and every one busy with a customer, including me. When I arrived, they were the only dealer in town (Gaudin,) that had ANY Rangers despite all of the sites saying they had some in stock. When I called; they said they had a Cactus grey FX4, my Blue, and a Pepper 2WD. When I arrived about 1 hour after calling (so casual of me,) somebody had already bought the Cactus. So I got my lovely blue on a Friday. Pepper sold the next Monday.

I could tell by the "climate" of the place I was not going to negotiate out of the markup... I wish I had done a bit more research and considered ordering a truck. My old car was not doing well at all (overheating,) so I think the pressure to find something I liked before next spring when the temperatures put cars on the side of the road was overwhelming me.

Live and learn! Love my truck.

Or,save the shipping fiasco and allow me to pick the freaking thing up at the factory.

It rolls off the line in Michigan, they pdi it at the factory and I arrive to pick it up.

Instead of the truck sitting in a rail yard for days, weeks or even months.

Hell, you can buy a BMW from the states fly to Germany to pick it up at the factory, drive around Europe and then ship the thing back to the states.

I'd really rather just go back to normal and be able to haggle many thousands of dollars off msrp lol
The companies don't like this an I think this low production is here to stay. They want the order what you want model so they don't have thousands of left overs to liquidate at the end of the model year. Most of the new cars I've purchased in my life had good size rebates an were Ford A plan deals. It allowed me to get a nicer more expensive car than I normally would have been able to afford or allowed me to trade out of a negative situation without money out of pocket.

Being in the right place at the right time (recently) for a once in a lifetime combination of supply and demand issues presented us with a complicated yet usable leverage for some. That includes me. I ended up trading my 3 year old XLT Ranger with 11K in for more than I paid when including taxes and registration for a brand new factory ordered to my specs F150 crewcab Lariat for a difference of 16K cash out the door. Sometimes spending money makes the more sense. Shortly thereafter prices for trade in on 2019-2021 Rangers dropped significantly. Will I keep my luxurious leather Lariat with 12 inch screen and V8 power that equals the 2.3 ranger on the freeway. It's alot more comfortable for me with a bad back. I never expect to see this good deal again in my lifetime. My wife was able to trade in her 2020 stick shift premium performance Mustang for her 2021 Bronco without losing any money either. Strange times we live in but not all bad.

Exactly! Walk away.
Sadly, that's not an option for everyone... :-/

Some from poor planning, but most because of unexpected damage or loss (accident, theft, catastrophic repair costs)...
