I don't understand... can UAW offer answers to the repeated failures I've encountered in my ownership experience?
Its a tongue in cheek response. It is a power house union and while unions have benefits, it generally degrades into lack of accountability when the companies have to jump through hoops that you can't even begin to imagine to fire employees.

To those concerned about cost cutting…

In the face in one of the largest supply chain disruptions in modern history, would you rather:

1) see the MSRP on newer models increase to reflect the actual costs of sourcing all of the original features, and watch delivery times slip to years for fully “featured” vehicles, or
2) see MSRP increases similar to traditional jumps (I.e inflation) and have a few peripheral features removed in order to deliver in an admittedly longer timeline, but still within 6 mo of order?

To slightly misquote a business book I read, “ No position is valid until is it posed as a choice.” They were talking about strategy, but I think it holds.

My opinion, unions had their place many many years ago, today they are the cancer of the workplace.
yes. I don't know about Canadia but US has too many laws protecting employees and companies and the only people unions help are the overpaid union leaders. let's look at the twinkie. baker's union went on strike and they all lost their jobs because the company ended up selling to Sara Lee

here's my take on unions and quality of work. UAW and unions for the most part breed this kind of behaviour and it flourishes.

feel free to dispute my version of events.

My cousin works at Ford. He passed on this "try and fire me story"

Its not uncommon for a worker to walk off the line, basically shutting the whole thing down.

why do they walk off the line? because they have a "medical condition"

technically their condition is crones disease with HR, but generally its more linked to their diet and beer swilling lifestyle at home after hours. We have all been there, beer and chicken wings after work, and the horrible case of the shits the next day.
So instead of being responsible adults, they just walk off the line after abusing their bodies, and everyone has to suffer. Some financially as a result (aka Ford) while they take a leisurely poop, and probably a quick wank to pornhub, sauntering back to work with zero urgency.

what does this do in the big picture? creates resentment and animosity to the other workers who are there trying to take pride in their work.
In the back ground, the grumblings and inner fighting amongst employees who try to earn a good living VS those employees just trying to be assholes and collect a paycheck cuz the union protects them....causes a rift to propagate throughout the employee ranks.
when management disciplines an employee (like my cousin for example) for not working hard enough, while fat jimmy scarfs down a box of cold chicken wings before his shift, just so he can take a 45 minute shit, and gets no discipline, then you can see how the whole work environment spirals downward and quality drops off the charts.

My opinion, unions had their place many many years ago, today they are the cancer of the workplace.
Just to add on top of this... Our workers don't even have a union and they still get away with a lot. Unions definitely don't help this situation, but moreover, especially is today's work climate, it's just so hard to find ANYONE to do work, let alone a skilled and qualified worker, especially menial work like on a mass production assembly line, that management is afraid to let anyone go for fear of not finding a replacement.

My 2019 Lariat with the 501 package has the heated driveshaft, heard it was decontented in subsequent yrs. along with engine cover, pencil tray, gear shift lights, etc.

What makes you think they didn't consider it? Maybe they did consider it, worked out what would happen to that ice once the driveshaft started moving, and concluded it was not a concern.

I'm no Ford engineer, so I can't say what they did or did not consider. However, I have considered the fact that there's quite a number Rangers that are now routinely parked outdoors in freeze/thaw climates, and I've not yet seen one report of damage to the driveshaft itself or any items in the vicinity.
I’m pretty sure when they were designing the truck they never put to thought how many balance weights they would slap on these driveshafts! That by itself is a nice anchor for ice to form and grip that won’t “fly off” easily… Just sayin.

Nice - it was never standard on my 2019 XLT but I do have the heated door and tailgate handles that other owners are missing.

Having grown up in WNY (the home of chicken wings) and many times overindulging in the hottest chicken wings (.05 ea) and cheapest draft beer ($5 pitcher) - there was no such thing as a "leisurely poop" , it was more like a "these are the times that try men's souls" type of event.

and after a shift was over - head to the bar conveniently located outside of the plant gate and enjoy a boilermaker for $1.00

those were the days my friends

Yup, my 2021 dosen't have it...another victim of cost cutting.
The one you have...is it similar to the heated seats with 3 settings ?

Years ago, college friends of mine used to head to Niagara Falls, NY for buck-a-beer and 10-cent wing night. Duff’s, IIRC ?

i opted to not check the box for a heated driveshaft on my custom build.
for one, I've never had an iced up shaft, so i never saw the point.
and two I heard of a few instanced where the heater went crazy and warped the shaft.

I said no way man, thats not for me.
You’re a dancing banana - how is your shaft not already warped?

Sounds like he's sayin his shaft is always at least warm, but not to the extent that he has a hot shaft, but not too hot.
And we all know that a warm or hot shaft is always better than a cold shaft. :like:
