thanks for the advice. I have not heard good things about the install. I already have a deposit on the sweat jar. In addition to forgetting the t-nuts, they gave me the wrong length cross bar for under the wind screen.
If you end up DIY, I can tell you exactly which 2 wires to splice. Managed to get a big standard RCA camera for to display nicely, although no backup guide lines.
Some more progress but no love. You can absolutely tie into the connector under the tail gate and connect any camera (incl cheap rca cameras) by connecting the video source (rca center post) to the white/green and the rca outer ground to the blue/grey. This would work for mounting a backup...
Finally go around to investigating the inputs behind the radio. Looks like the pic I saw showing a video rca connector in the dash must have been for an aftermarket system. I can confirm there is no such connector on the lariat screen or controller. I figured that was to easy to be true.
Let me know how it goes. I keep saying I am going to try it, have all the parts to try it, and keep getting distracted. Will def give it a shot when my Prinsu is installed as I have a bunch of othe wiring to do then.
Was your “wind noise” a consistent high frequency hun? Kinda like blowing across the top of an empty bottle? Have been trying to figure out where that is coming from. It isn’t wheel hub/beating hum. That much I know.
I am 6'2, but taller in the torso rather than legs to headroom is usually an issue. Not problem in the ranger and as other said, I don't put my seat all the way back for legroom. All told, very happy with the interior "fit".
My strategy is that I picked up a simple 4 channel RCA video box off amazon that lets you select any of 4 inputs, or view multiples in split screen or quad view. Was hoping we would collectively find a simple trigger, like that powering the camera sends signal down the RCA and triggers the...
My understanding is that ultimately it ends up as a video RCA connector at the back of the dash display. Haven’t confirmed that yet but planning to soon.
Many thanks. I have practically the same truck, and have struggled with where to add lights without blocking the ACC (or relocating it) and without ditching the lariat grill that I like, but is very limiting for light placement vs the XLT. This is a great solution. Thanks for sharing.
I think the problem is that the video feed inputs at the back of the sync unit by RCA connector (from another posters pic during head unit swap) which has its own pos and neg. So there is a pos and neg for camera power, and and rca pos and neg.
See, I was thinking about using a camera with a standard RCA connector and splitting it behind the dash with a power relay to trigger it, rather than splicing off the original harness. It’s more wiring, but less issue with identifying pins etc..
